is it the early 2.9 or the 2.9 turbo, basically its the copy of the sprinter engine so any good commercial factors will supply glow plugs etc, start motor, go to electrical factors for that, exchange unit.

Sorry to hitch hike but-
how much work is it to stick a sprinter td engine into a G-Wagon? The origonal 2.9 N/A deisel has packed up. I know theres quite alot of ekectrics on the speinter engines tho.

ermm was looking todo this myself but they have a completly different inlet manifold with different electrical bits and bobs ,,
its the same engine with a turbo on but the inlet manifold is complety different
2.9 is a very basic engine
you can get a after market turbo kit for the 2.9d engine but they are very rare ?
i was considering getting the turbo and manifold and down pipe from a sprinter and fitting on my 2.9 but im not sure if that would work ? also im unsure on the pipe work, airfilter ,intercooler etc etc ?
sorry cant advice any further

Does the 2.9td come out of the sprinters?
He actually has the turbo kit for it but theres a few bits missing. Its a shame really as the engine has been built for the turbo conversion inc. low comp pistons but he couldnt find some of the bits needed. So he didnt bother. Now the bottom end has seized up so he has to sort something out for it.
He has another g-wagon for bits with the same engine in but it got drowned at kirtain lyndsy and think the valve seals are shot or leaky injector as it smokes a wee bit. Mite be best to mix and match the two engines and find the rest of the bits for the turbo conversion?
thanks for the help. Mick

sprinters carry the 2.9td
and the ssangyong musso carry a 2.9td but they use different inlet mainfolds due to the space under the bonnet ..
is the turbo set up off a sprinter ?
cant you free the engine off ?

Dont know where he got the kit from. Is that where the turbo's kits come from? think hes missing the oil pipe (s) and a few other trimmings. How would one go about freeing the engine off? would have thought the piston ring (s) would be shot?
thanks. Mick

its been done, but the manifold is the issue for the G wagen, you will need that to enable you to fit the engine and close the bonnet its electronic throttle too

hi guys, don't want to come across like a smarty pants, but would It not be easier to fit the merc engine out of the musso to a G,
instead of the sprinter engine, and mess around with inlet manifolds?
I'm sure its not this simple as it would be a popular swap!
I stared down the sprinter engine swap in a G around 2000, I cant remember how much msl (Irish merc importers) wanted for a 290td G inlet manifold, but it was bloody expensive! coupled with the engine being fairly new at the time (read expensive) and the fact that I'd no Internet at the time so I was only guessing that the 290G manifold would fit the sprinter engine, I ended up buying a 3.0td trooper, and forgetting all about it! still regret that move!
so is the musso engine an easy swap?
