well this is a good topic
i put £35 in my tank and did one play day at 30 miles and 80 miles road driving then had to fill the tank again did do the math but i didn't want to have a hart attack and that's on 235-75-15s and running a webber straight thru rear pipe on the exhaust and the truck is 1.2tons on the weigh bridge
I'm doing around 15 miles per gallon

Little Toe has std 1.3 Sammy engine with a webber and "sporty" exhaust.
Tyres are 32's running on Yota axles, R P 5.29:1 and Sammy t-case.
I get about 15mpg on road and about 4-7 mpg off-road.
So I'm going to fit the V8 and get more mpg - work that one out
Cheers
Shaun

the reason i ask is because i have a new job which involves a bit of a commute so just trying to figure out whether to keep the Sammy or get a 2.8TD trooper/front era and run it on bio fuel
looks like the 2.8TD is winning unfortunately

A mate only gets 25MPG out of his Fron tear a, and its crap. Stick with the zuk mate and start looking for a diesel lump to go in it

My SJ410 on 215R15 Colways used to return 22mpg if driven like a Nun and 20mpg if thrashed...
I can't really remember much about my LWB Samurai, I think the best I saw was 24mpg after fitting the Nikki carb...

just another thing, how many people run free wheeling hubs, i currently dont have any,
i remember working out once that on my lwb, standard drive train with 31's and a nikki carb got 30 mpg, but that was with free wheeling hubs
be interesting to see if the higher milage peps have fwh's or not
Ian

There is something not right here.
My 300Tdi 110 Defender is far heavier than your zuks; you already know that becasue you keep reminding us about it when a zuk and LR meet in deep mud.
I have 265/75 AT's on 16" rims (that is 32" overall diameter), it is permanent 4wheel drive (no free wheeling hubs). Most of my motoring is on-road, but I do some off-road tree work and I often carry a fair load, often half a tonne, sometimes more.
Average consumption over the last 20,000 miles is over 34mpg. Why are you not exceeding this easily?

1) yours is diesel where as all zooks are petrol (unless you change that yourself)
2) you have a bigger engine so it doesn't have to work as hard to drag all the metal along
3) thanks a lot you have now added another vehicle to the list i have to choose from.

Well done Allan, your diesel is proof that this is the way to go.
In terms of thermodynamic efficiency, some high compression diesels can be up to twice as good as petrol, and they are particularly good at reduced power levels. Not all diesels are this good though.
I still of the opinion that some of the light weight zuks are surprisingly poor on fuel consumption.

tell me about it, a mate of mine rented a van so we could go and pick up a conservatory for him. it cost more on diesel than the equivalent petrol version would have cost on petrol
