Hi all,

Removed the Plough from my disco but the back 2 bolts that go through the chassis rails have decided they want to stay where they are ?

One of them sheared both ends and is flush with the rails and the other is still a whole bolt but wont budge ....

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

good soak in penetrating fluid then hit with a big hammer, if that doesn't work, try a bigger hammer!

Are you going to use those bolt holes again ?
If not cut the other bolt/head off and leave that bits in the chassis.

I find an air chisel worked wonders for loosening the bolts, you just need to drill a shallow hole in one end of the bolt to locate the drill. to make them come out easier just heat the area with the oxy-acetylene torch. This will work even if a sledge hammer doesn't class as a big enough hammer, after 20 years of rust and dirt even WD40 for a day had no affect compared to the air chisel.

I've found that diesel works better than WD40. It's more difficult to get on the bolts in this case, but worth a go IMHO. Large hammers, drifts etc are also good bets

A popular misconception is that WD40 is a release agent/rust eater/penetrating oil. It's not - it's a Water Dispersant - that's the WD part of the name.

Get a tin of real penetrating oil, 'Plus Gas' or similar, put it on and leave it overnight or at least a few hours - how many times do you see someone spray some fluid, even the right kind, on a job and immediately attack it and wonder why it's still siezed.... it needs residence time!

Spotted twin packs of "3 in 1 penetrating oil" in aldi yesterday. I remember using it years ago, may be better than WD.

You can get it here (interestingly its category is drain cleaner) http://www.aromaproducts.co.uk/product.php/371/107/ but only in cases of 12.... perhaps Difflock might like to stock it?
