|
|
|
I've read a few times that Vauxhall Astra shocks can be used on Vitaras as part of a cheap lift kit.
I've also seen these for Vitaras, to go on top of the shocks to extend them:
...Is there any chance that the thread on the Astra and Vitars shocks are the same?

if you have astra shocks, you do NOT want those.

I can assure you I do...
The Astra shocks are fitted to an Astra, but spend most of their time fully extended. So I need to lengthen them.
If these will fit Astra shocks, they would be ideal. Do you know if the thread is the same as Vitara?

if you have the correct astra shocks you dont require them the springs would fall out (thats with extended ones) and the a arm ball joint would be maxed out. put them on the front.
trust me

@suzukivit1 - These shocks aren't on a Vitara.
@Munkee - Lol, yeah I'm guessing they'll probably be different. Just wishful thinking!

Why not just buy some shocks that are the correct length?
The problem with the extensions are that although they make the shock longer they don't increase the amount of travel.
Personally I think those extensions are a bit of a bodge.

Because for some unknown reason I can't seem to get 'off the shelf' modification parts to raise the suspension of a 1993 Vauxhall Astra.
Getting some custom made would cost more than the car is worth!

Perhaps you should have stated what exactly you needed them for in the first place, this is a 4x4 forum, not an Astra forum after all so i think most people would presume its of use of a 4x4
There are many aftermarket shock companies that sell non standard length shocks with a pin top and eye bottom mount, rough country, pro comp etc so it shouldn't be that hard to find some shocks that fit your needs.

It didn't seem overly relevant to start with, as I was only asking about differences in threads! Lol
I'll have another look, but when I looked last time I dismissed everything I found as overpriced...

KYB have lists of all their shocks, including dimensions and mount types, I just copy it all into excel so I can filter it to see what might work, then you just need to cross reference the part number to see if the vehicle is similar otherwise the damping rate might be completely out. They are usually nice and cheap as well.
Their GTE rear shocks are P/n 343047
http://www.kyb-europe.com/pdf/2015/KYB2015_Shoc...gue-Version_A.pdf
this list has lengths etc. only issue is its the US one so not all the shocks for the european market are listed etc. still can be useful though.

As the US didn't have the Astra's, the part number is not in that catalogue. I can't seem to find out the exact dimensions and what ends, to try and compare it to the others!
GTE would be a Mk2, not sure if they are the same as a Mk3. Mk3's sporty version was the GSI, which could be lower as standard than my run-of-the-mill model...

Vauxhall also listed a Astra Sport in MK3,looked after one in the N3 production rally car glass.Used to run Proflex (gas cannister)adjustable shocks on it.It had a red top 2 litre in it and a F20 box.We found that Mk2 Astra drive shafts we fitted and are 10mm shorter than the Mk3 and would pop CV's every so often, until we changed them.
Some useless info there for you

Have you tried a scrap yard / breaker or anyone that builds stock cars, Car trials / Grass autotest / autocross cars or the likes to see if they can come up with an idea & cheap options on suitable Springs and dampers to give the car more height / travel?
