|
|
|
Howdy all,
Any ideas for getting/making a 404 snorkel? Some chap in the states was going to make a stainless one, but oddly enough it never happened.
Much as I love my angle grinder and welder (in that order!), it's a bit too cosmetic and rounded for my agricultural nature.
Can anyone think of an easy way of making one, or a different kind that can be munged?
ta,
jim

im not into the blue peter way of thinking the idea of sticky back plastic between the pipe the water and an exspensive repair bill and a ride home on the back of a recovery wagon
you can get slvent weld pipe up to 2" (50mm)that is glued and water proof
but if i was you just find a local exhaust place see if the have a piece of exhaust pipe idealy 2.5 " with a 90degree bend on they might have a piece in stainless
if not try this place just got a stainless cat and box off them

well, how I've made mine is:-
Get a spare 404 airbox, and cut the pipe that bolts into the passenger wing
Get a spare metal L piece of pipe from the airbox to carb
weld together
get length of pipe which matches L piece diameter and weld together
Add Land rover-esque snorkel top mushroom filter thingy (an MOD wolf snorkel top looks the biz
Bolt to outer wing where Airbox is mounted
A voila, a genuine Mercedes Snorkel

Donks,
That's a good tip, and I have considered it - as we have a spare airbox. I think I had a good reason for not doing it, but I can't remember why!
Using the tube from the airbox to the carb is genius.
Ta,
jim
