That's the brazilian JR 4x4 kit. It's a hell of a lot of work like you said, but this particular design allows to keep the stock geometry.
Have you considered giving your Niva the Hoodoo treatment???

Alejandro,
Paul's already got it lifted! I think the main problem would be the drive shafts. Stopping them pulling out or fouling the lower arm. And then there's the arms themselves; they would start adopting some crazy down angles! Chassis is also in the way!

Man, this is insane...
I recall seeing a couple videos of Brakesun's white Niva on YouTube, I was amazed at that time but this... This is simply too much.
Hoodoo;
Sorry, I didn't know Paul's Niva was already lifted. Going higher than 2" using your setup is asking for trouble, specially if you live in South America. Niva CV joints are very scarce around here, and if you manage to find whole shafts the tag price is way over the total amount I paid for the car (brand new, BTW) in October 1991.
Damn mugging politicians...

Luckily it's got a Diesel engine, can't imagine using a ladder to change the spark plugs!

Hi all, I'm new to the forums. Anyway, I am also very interested in lifting my Lada by a fair bit because I do some pretty extreme 4wding. I am very interested in getting a lift because I want to make my car much more capable and show everyone in the 4wd club I am in what the Niva can do.
I have been searching for a long time for kits that give more than about 2 inches of lift, but haven't been able to find much. I have also heard that it is possible to do a body lift, but I'm not sure exactly how because the Niva has a monocoque chassis, and from looking at it it looks like custom brackets and stuff would be required.
Has anyone got any more info on the kit from Brazil? Is the work that is required fabrication work, or just disassembly and reassembly with replacement components of the suspension? Does anyone know where I could get the kit from or how much it would cost? I tried searching for it, but couldn't find any info.
Any info would be great
Cheers,
Graeme

Bear in mind that the amount of ground clearance you get depends ENTIRELY on the diameter of your tyres. The lowest part of the vehicle is always under the rear axle differential.
In my experience, a lift of about 2", coupled with 205/16, 600/16, or 215/15 tyres gives you approx, 10.5" under the rear diff, and 12.5" under the front crossmember, and a Niva that will upset vastly more expensive and larger machinery. Remember that almost everything else has to be modified to match a standard Niva for clearance.
You also retain the reliability that they lose, and the ability to use standard parts.
There really is no need to go overboard on the Niva to improve it dramatically, as I'm sure other Aussies on this forum will explain!

That Brazilian kit appears to have extra bracketry welded on to the underside of the frame rails. Along with a rather enormous "strut" to the upper arm.
Certainly has started the gears grinding up in the old cranium tho....

Ha ha, you haven't seen me in action have you? That is exactly what I have been doing. I have only been out a few times, and so far I have bent the steering idler arm, smashed the steering box, broken the rubber doughnut (although it was damaged already and running crooked), and ripped half the exhaust off while climbing a hill. I have driven it home everytime, once with half a turn of freeplay in the steering because of the broken steering box, and once with 20 degrees of toe out in the steering because of the bent idler arm. I even drove it home with the rubber doughnut completely broken and the transfer case vibrating all over the place, and jumping out of gear and everything because the tailshaft was moving about.
This is mainly why I want to lift it. The other alternative that I am considering would be 2" lift and larger tyres, then just cut the guards until they fit, similar to this one: http://4wheeldrive.about.com/od/ladanivareadersrides/ig/Lada-Niva---Photo-Gallery/1986-Lada-Niva.htm
I'm not really worried about driveability or legality or anything either, because the lada is just a toy for the weekends at the moment, and it only cost $700

About three years ago I sent JR 4x4 an e-mail requesting more info about the kit. They sent me a Word file with pictures and price info, but I managed to get it lost somewhere in time .
It's a 100% bolt-on thing, which means you can remove it any time and end up with a stock car again, no welding, no drilling, no nothing!. Kit comes with (two of each) x-member, front sway bar and front diff lowering brackets, upper ball joint spacers, a rear sway bar repositioning bracket, a set of two Heim-jointed rear axle long arms (links???) and four coil springs, all with your choice of 2", 4" or 6" of total lift. A very popular project in Brazil is the VW AP 1.8/2.0 engine swap, so they even build a set of engine brackets specifically designed for working with their lowering x-member brackets.
Cost installed -without shocks- was 1300 USD. A bit pricey, but you get what you pay for.

Not totally accurate, but about £700 to £800. Then you've got carriage, duties etc!
