I had to have a Thatcham Cat 1 alarm fitted to my Defender 130 for the insurance company. Having looked around I eventually chose the TOAD Ai606 and had it fitted last weekend.
As the vehicle essentially has two areas to be covered - the cab and the rear camper body - I had three ultrasonic detectors fitted but when I got it home I found that I could open the rear door without activating the alarm - not good - but the company who fitted it told me how to adjust the sensors.
Oh what fun I've had. I can set the sensitivity so high that the alarm goes off if you stand next to the car and cough!
A very neat and flexible alarm system though, highly recommended.

Hi it cost £299 fitted but you can buy the unit itself for approx £120 on ebay, having seen how it was fitted I'd do it myself next time. But if your insurance company demanded it - which mine did - they want to see a certificate which only a professional outfit can give you.
The Toad 606 has a great array of features and is very flexible, I can wire in the central locking and electric windows to the blipper (when I fit them!) and it has the ability to send a text message to you if the alarm goes off (with an optional comms unit) It also has a panic setting that will lock the doors, close the windows and set off the alarm if you're being abused or attacked in the car, but it doesn't activate the immobiliser so you can still drive away - very useful for South London on a Friday night!
It's also sensible enough to reset itself after 30 seconds if the alarm activates but it senses no further movement and no doors were opened, so it won't upset the neighbours by going off all night
I've now wound down the sensitivity low enough so you need to slap the side of the vehicle for it to go off - or open a door.
I'm very impressed.
