Can anyone help me? i have installed my cb radio in the old ashtray compartment in my suzuki samurai. When im just sat on the drive the level of noise is very low but as soon as i turn the key i virtually have to turn the squelch right up. I dont think its the alternator because it dosn't get worse when i start the engine.

Is this just electrical interference? How can i stop it or at least reduce it.

I am running a midland cb unit with mag mounted sirio 145 not sure if that helps?

Thanks Very Happy

I would suggest two things.

1) Make a connection straight to the battery. Do things improve?

2) Something is generating the noise. I would pull one main fuse at a time to see if it goes away. The when can work out what is causing it.

Paul.

What sort of noise..?

clicking - Points
whine, fairly high picth - alternator
General crackle - fan, engine or heater

Always connect cb direct to battery with a thick FUSED cable. also connect earth direct to battery.
