Fitted a new handbrake lever yesterday because the original had bent sideways just below the tube that the push button sits in, and had buckled where it divides to go either side of the ratchet mechanism. I figured that this had happened because the lever is designed to be raised vertically, and it's in a position where a fair amount of sideways force towards the driver is exerted when applying. So, after removing the original, I spaced the mounting bolts (2) on the passenger side by about 10mm, and bolted the new one into place. The lever now raises at a slight diagonal towards the driver, following the natural line of pull. Hopefully, this should get rid of the bending forces exerted, especially when trying to apply in off-road conditions with muck in the drums, and stop it bending and breaking!
Moves the ledge that switches off the warning light so it no longer does that, so I disconnected the light. Don't need it anyway!
Not earth shattering, I know, but I thought I'd pass it on!
Regards,

i once had a lada car with a broken hand brake lever and it made quite a tricky operation getting it home from the farmers paddock.

Heck, if it works then it's welcome!
Thanks for sharing, John.

Pull like hell when stopping on a hill to open a gate on the lanes! Then put it in gear and switch off when it still rolls back!
I've got a locking rear diff for the deep, muddy bits and axle twisters - works well! One of Aussie Dave's in Russia.
Because they work on the Torsen principle, they're rather like a LSD that locks up, so I'm thinking of one in the front as well. Should work ok.
And, before anyone tells me that this might cause steering problems on the road, I don't think it will with this unit. I'll find out eventually anyway!

Is it hard to fit the kit to the rear diff? Or is it better to get a pro to do it.

If you can do an ordinary diff, you can fit the locker. All you have to transfer is the crownwheel, fit new side bearings on the case, and refit.

Yeah, good work. I like the idea - but I haven't used my handbrake for a couple of weeks now. It works fine ...... I just haven't used it. That probably comes because I used to have a car that didn't have one!
