I started fitting Nokian all season/all weather tyres to cars a few years back as I drive in the country a lot. When I got my Grand Cherokee I put Weatherproof SUV tyres on it and these are now approaching the end of their life. They're not available any more, having been replaced by Seasonproof SUV which don't seem to get as good reviews. This, combined with having to use low range to get out of a caravan site without churning it up, means I'm looking elsewhere. The size in question is 235/65R17.
I'm torn between out and out all season or all season with some level of all terrain capability. Initially I'm thinking Hankook Kinergy 4s2 X as an all season or Falken Wildpeak AT3WA with some all terrain capability. My main criteria is ability in the wet and I'm not sure the Falken will be as good, particularly in winter. Has anyone used either of these or have any other recommendations? It's worth noting that I live 7 miles from the nearest gritter route and the roads are regularly covered with mud so can be a bit slippery when wet.

Uniroyal list the MS Plus 77 in 235/65R17,Uniroyal make excellent rain tyres, so can't see any issues with them.Kumho list the Wintercraft WS 71.the Uniroyal are going to £120 each ish, the Kumho something around £90 each.
There are sure to be others but i would go for something like them.
Or Cooper Discoverer Winter, or Vredstein Wintertrac Pro

They're all winter tyres, aren't they? I don't think I need a full winter as I use the same tyres all year. The Nokians haven't worn brilliantly so I'd be reluctant to go more winter biased.

I have people using full winter year round some last better than others, had someone running a Freelander 2 on Seasonproofs the same size as yours, with one rotation he got 23k on them
Here are just a few different makes to choose from:
Uniroyal All Season expert 2, Star Performer SPTV, Maxxis Premitra All Season AP3, Kleber Citilander, Fulda Multi Control SUV, Rotalla Setula 1 Season RA03, Nexan N Blue 4 season.
Cheapest ones start at around £75 and go up £120 plus.
Just a thought if the weather changes then people are going to go short on stuff, and then no be able to get them.
You may well find that some of the European makes are a tad too soft and wear quite quick, some Far East stuff a bit harder wearing, but the choice is yours.

I guess I was hoping there was a standout all terrain that's good on wet roads or an all season that was better than others off road.

They are pretty much all the same to be truthful, they work year round in foul weather with some snow usage as well, but they are not all terrain tyre.you could go down the all terrain route but once the temprature starts to drop their performance to a certain extent will drop off.
Once you hit minus 7 their performance will start to drop off like a stone.

I've been doing a bit of googling and came across the Cooper Discoverer AT3 4S before finding they don't seem to be available in my size. I then notice that the 'new' Discoverer AT3 Sport 2 is 3PMSF rated and claimed to be suitable for all season use. Are there any thoughts on this claim?

Andy if they are marked 3PMSF i can assure you they would have been tested in various weather situations if they were not good or very good they would not pass, especially if the German TUV people and many others have been involved in those tests.

It appears the Cooper Discoverer AT3 Sport 2 replaced the AT3 4S in Europe so now it's a head vs heart decision, my head wants ATs but my head says I'd be better off with the wet grip of all seasons (and rely on the Quadradrive if I go off road). I did look at some BFGs that claim to be 90/10s and are 3pmsf but there's no way I could put "Urban Terrain" tyres on a rural Jeep!
