Hi all, long time since I’ve posted
Mk1 vitara 1.6 8v SWB soft top Sport ‘94, owned since ‘97, for the last 15 years a greenlaner only, 1000 miles pa, 80k on the clock
In recent years clutch and rear prop UJs replaced, and a used F axle fitted due to pinion failure of the original. 2” susp and body lifts ( rocky road kit )
Recently in heard grinding from the front. 31” MTs fitted
Checked fwh’s ( superwinch) and OS was dry and rusty, so greased and refitted.
In 4wd with both hubs engaged I get the noise when coasting
In 2wd with hubs disengaged no noise
In 2wd with hubs engaged I get noise
In 2wd with NS engaged and OS disengaged no noise
In 2wd with OS engaged and NS disengaged I get noise
No clicking on turning to suggest a cv gone

Any thoughts please? Wheel bearing ?

maybe it is grit in the outer hub where the cv joint goes into the hub or the cv cover rubbing
