Hi guys, new to the forum as a member but have browsed on and off over the years, thought i had registered but turns out i hadn't, anyway, looking to trade out my current daily driver civic type r for something with a bit more ground clearance and 4x4, also to be a daily driver.

I have to access pretty rough farmers trails a couple of times a month for another hobby and know i am going to eventually rip something off my car, Farmer has also put in a new road made out of firly massive chunks of stone/rock which can really only be accessed by something with decent ground clearance and 4 wheel drive,I have a budget of around £3k, my current cars probably worth about £2k so something within that £3-5k price range would be ideal, would consider a pick up truck as well as a normal 4 wheel drive.

if it was your money what would you go for? goes without saying i need something reliable as its my only form of transport and not something that's a hardcore weekend mud plugger that goes through the constant cycle of drive, break, fix/upgrade repeat lol

its only myself so don't need a massive 7 seater for family/kids

Thanks in advance

Welcome and there's usually someone who'll give an opinion in here!

I'm thinking Jimny?

Have thought Jimny myself but most of the ones i've seen in my range tend to already be rot boxes having probably had welding done on them already due to corrosion failures on previous MOT's, also think they tend to be pricey for what they are( I think you can get more car for the same amount of ££££)

ideally I want to keep it a few years at least so something thats probably not as prone to the corrosion, as much as i like the Jimny i would ideally like something a little more bigger to keep it more daily driver friendly, specially if i put slightly bigger wheels and tyres on further down the line.

I wouldn't completely rule a Jimny out but i'd just like to hear what other options people can come up with, i know this forums going to know the differences between a "soft roader" that looks like a 4x4/suv and something actually built for purpose.

I'm probably at this farmers place twice a month minimum on average(well prior to the whole covid19 thing i was ), he has a car park i can get to in the civic but after that its a 1km hike with a load of gear on my back...or buy a 4x4/pickup, if i do have an off roader i'd also like to do some off roading in it maybe a few times a year, maybe I'll catch the off roading bug and end up building a mud monster...but right now...lets concentrate on a capable enough daily that wont break down every couple of month and eat all my hobby money in repairs ( land rover Laughing )

Seen a 57 plate ford ranger thunder the other night in a dealers in decent condition, but adverts been removed from the net so its probably sold

I have a Jimny (had about 3 years). If using as a daily driver, keep clear, they are poo unless off road. And yes, rot boxes. If wanting smallish, reliable, and a good daily, look at a Terios. I had the old shape which was spot on, but the later ones (1.5) are great. In budget, decent off road, and drive fine on tarmac.
