Hi
I'm looking at getting a 2002 discovery 2 Td5 to replace my disco 200tdi.
One of the first upgrades would be to taller tyres, but when i done this on my 200tdi i caused myself all sorts of grief by fitting 33in tall tyres and messing the gear ratio up, i ended up with a top speed of about 55mph and in the end fitted a transfer box from a Defender to put it all right.
Now Mr tyre has helped with a conversion of what i have, but apparently i cannot use 15in tyres but need to go to 16in because of brake clearance issues
Before i do the same again what is the tallest tyre i can fit without having to change the transfer box again ???.
There will be some body cutting and bumper removal as well, so would like to know what height tyres other people have fitted.
Thank you
Mouse.

Both on and off road, we regularly go on holiday to Wales and most of the cottages we rent have no normal road access to them, in forests, up the side of mountain's etc., also like to green lane locally.
My current Disco 200Tdi has a 2in suspension lift, 33x12.50x15 cooper sst pro tyres 1in wheel spacers and heavily trimmed arches so am looking to have something similar.
Got to admit also love big tyres and being able to see over other traffic.

I have BFG 255/85-16 mud-terrains on my Defender (4" lift), mounted on 16"/8J rims with 25 mm offset. That's a touch over 33 inch diameter. No need to trim anything or even adjust the steering stoppers. Not sure if it's the same on a Disco.
But on checking BFG UK website, it looks they don't do that size anymore
I have a set of 34/10.50-16s Jungle Trekkers as well on the same rims - they need the steering stops adjusting and the lugs rub the suspension struts on the rear (I bought those before the Simex prices went through the roof...)
Btw the BFGs seem to last forever. Many 10s of thousands of miles and still plenty tread left.

Hi
Thanks for the reply.
Really needed to hear from disco owners as the transfer box is different, I know I can change the box for a defender one but need to know how tall I can go without over gearing the Disco and having to do this.
Interested to hear about the mileage of the BFG's though, something to take into account when matching prices.
Mouse.
