I'm fed up with hurting myself on motorbikes so I want to play 4x4s again. I want to be able to go to pay and play days and also do trials. I was thinking about a land cruiser 80 series as i have always wanted one and they can be lifted to run big tyres but will cost at least £8000+ by the time you buy one, lift it and fit tyres. I think this would cause me stress and worry about it falling over and that would limit the fun. I currently have a 3.2 lwb shogun but I don't really want to use this as they are limited to a max of 33 inch tyres after a 2inch lift.
What is the best, most modifiable, most capable 4x4 that is not a land rover or Suzuki and costs less than a cruiser?

people who do well are usually in a suzuki. Easy to manoeuvre, light and cheap. You don't need huge tyres and loads of modifications.

If that's not for you I did watch someone do very well in a ford maverick once. They beat a lot of much more capable vehicles.

Seeing as you have a big car you can tow it there so it doesn't need to be road legal. You can pick up SWB pajeros cheap. To get bigger tyres on mine I've always cut the body rather than big lifts, I don't like big lifts they feel very unbalanced.

Hi,

My Suzuki Jimny failed it's MOT expensively ... rust behind headlamps. ... or body mounting points as they called it. Body panels, not chassis. Expensive for garage to repair. Me? Born before WW2, SWMBO needs two new knees, so little incentive for me to repair. Brisk, and sitting on four chunky tyres, don't know about the spare, it hides under a posh cover ... located in Milton Keynes. I loved it, but SWMBO couldn't climb into it, so it's just sitting in the drive.

Price? Think of 3 figures, and try me! I'd happily drive it to Scotland (I think it has a full tank of petrol), which is legal (discuss) if you are taking it to a place where is to be repaired for MOT, but SWMBO needs my presence at home.

Sorry, I've forgotten how to post pictures. Registration V588XFW, do a MOT history check. Also struggling with Difflock (I've been away a long time)

602 (My old RAF "last three")

OT ... my son was driving a rented Toyota round Fraser Island (or is it Frazer?). Google both versions. He looked in his mirror, saw the complete underside of the Zuke that was following him. It dropped back onto it's wheels ... and stopped while the young lady in the passenger seat got out and had a quick vomit.
