Jimny tow bar.

Hi,

I have a 1990ish Jimny.

SWMBO found me a towbar on Amazon, for £75 ... delivered the following day. It's an impressive bit of kit ... but less so the instructions.

OK, maybe the instructions are adequate, but I was born before WW2, and am "winding down". I haven't touched a spanner in the best part of twelve months, and anyway, modern cars confuse me. I do not relish ripping off half the rear body.

I live near Milton Keynes.

Can anyone offer suggestions/advice, pretty please? I anticipate that this is going to be an "open wallet" job. Probably cheaper to part-ex the Jimny for one that already has a hook fitted.

I would've taken it to a towbar centre, my local centre / mobile company will supply and fit for around £160 so I'm sure one near you will.

You could try one and see if one will fit yours but they can be funny about fitting parts you supply, to do with their insurance etc. I think you just need to phone around and see if someone will fit it for you. A towbar centre / mobile fitter or just a garage. If they'll do it for £50 - £100 your onto a winner.

Hi Cynic-Al,

I had anticipated reluctance from a trader, but had assumed it would be because they were "snotty". I'd never thought about insurance.

What happens if a car is "tail-gated", and the undamaged tow-bar has to be removed and refitted?

I done a Google "Remove Jimny rear bumper". I seems to be very easy.

We shall see. I'll report back after I have screwed up my courage, and "girded my loins".
