Hi all,
First time post - long time lurker!
Not had a 4x4 for the last 20 years (been living in London) but now looking for a defender or something similar - have had a Subaru pickup and a fourtrak in the past, both great vehicles!

With pricing up insurance for a defender, the only good quote I have had so far on a 1996 90 had been close to £1200 for limited mileage, DirectLine my current insurer for the family runaround will not touch anything that's classed as a pickup.

Just wondering if anyone knows a half decent insurer that may look at a Defender as a private car and not a pickup!

Have been looking for a SJ413 for years but cant find one in my price range so Defender of some type it will be Smile

Thanks!

Comes to something when an SJ costs more than a defender Laughing

Have you considered a Jimny?

For insurance I would try a comparison site, NFU, Adrian Flux and Lancaster. Is it the pickup you want? Try a quote for a CSW and see if that's any better. Make sure you have plenty of security devices as they have a habit of walking away so the insurance company will like that, just remember whatever you declare has to be fitted and working.

Hi and welcome ~ I've been Flux and NFU. Bottom line is challenge their quotes and they'll do their best to undercut to keep your business.

Flux has been quite good to me ~ a couple of hundred but I suppose that all depends on no claims, age and location and stuff.

Try AVIVA for cover.
They will cover Vans,Pickups and Dual Use vehicles for Private use at 'much cheapness' & not having available NCB because on another vehicle they recognise your No Claims or no accidents history.
4x4's or high risk of theft vehicles might still cost more because of that high risk, and that will include LR's, Suzuki's etc.

I have 2 vehicles with them now, they undercut everyone else i have used in the past.
http://aviva.co.uk/insurance/motor

Nice and simple to deal with when it comes to commercials not being used commercially or for 'Gain and reward', or light commercials being used as commercials.

Hi.
Please feel free to give us a try for insurance if you like. If you wanted to PM me some contact details I'd be happy to arrange for one of my quotes team to give you a call back.

?
Dan@AdrianFlux are you actually one person called Dan? or are there more than just one Dan?

Adrian Flux, happy to maybe give a quote and then actually insure you,
and on renewal take the pith like many other insurers.

Post about this on forums and Dan@AdrianFlux is not that bothered.

Or go for a Comparison site on 4x4 Insurance, get linked to AF or get a call from them and go through your needs and in the end find Adrian Flux do not want to insure you, cover mods etc.

But always worth a try to see how one gets on.
Dan@AdrianFlux is across many forums offering the services of the 'quotes team'.

Hi,

An insurance application form question ...

Have you had any accidents or claims in the last five years?

Do they mean motoring claims? Or do they mean"including sporting injuries and house insurance claims, etc"

If worded that way and you have had accidents or claims in the last five years answer yes.

Then when you are asked what they were it will be clear they were not Accidents involving an Insurance Claim by you or against you for a Motor Vehicle.

Usually they ask about Accidents and Claims with vehicles. and another on any other claims.

Same with Convictions, Vehicle related and non vehicle related.

I think they want to know about ALL accidents and claims in order to do a risk assesment on you and to see if they think you may have been trying it on if you had made claims. You could always ask the insurance comany if they mean all claims and accidents.

Hi,

Thanks for replies. I think it would be a good idea to ask what they mean.

As for insuring commercial vehicles, in the late 1970s, my mate had a Mini-van. His insurers got snotty, and said they would only insure goods vehicles used for business.

So he declared himself as a CIVIL SERVANT / BEE KEEPER

Yes he did keep bees, sold both honey and bees-wax. Even had a stall at the Royal Welsh.

Civil Servant? He retired as Registrar General of .... no, perhaps I'd better not tell you that. He is now a "Property Developer"

I think it would be a good idea to ask what they mean.
That is why you get a tongue and ears, or the one finger to type with.
Or maybe go with AVIVA as they have simplified the whole insuring thing.

The past is a wonderful thing but little use to those that live and now work in Call Centres or even from home and have a key board and a set of questions and a choice of answers that they can use depending on a callers answers.

I think JC missed a trick here, instead of promising to nationalise BT so that magically we can all have free broadband he should have promised to nationalise the insurance industry. Then we could all have free home insurance, motor insurance, travel insurance, gadget insurance, PPI insurance, critical illness insurance which would mean we could all go private and take the strain off the NHS. And no more uninsured drivers to worry about! He really could've fixed Britain with that one!
