I've spent many hours getting the RH front wing back into shape and 100% TIG welded the joints. It has worked well and I now have some metal to screw the rubber spat to. So it seemed only fair to give it a paint job as well Very Happy

But the LH wing looks like it needs some work now Confused

The chassis anchor points have taken a fair kicking the last couple of years. I had to bend the bottom plate right to change the 3-bolt bushes. Definitely time to jump in with some more metal !

For the 2016 season it's an oil change and filter, plus a little fab.
The filter has been on since 2012 but the oil was newer. I'm changing both, but the oil isn't black yet, just smelly!
The side mounted waffles needed a good solid bracket and now have one. The "easy acces" slide got damaged every event.
The ground anchor is getting more angle to bite down into soil.

Making audio books for fun is diverting my mind from any major modification. It worked okay anyway in 2015, so maybe best left alone ?

Testing the new fuel regulator from Merlin to see if we hold even pressure at different angles.

There's also a vid of the same test Smile
It worked great and we had it really steep. I'm amazed the SU carbs ran it at all?
We also bent the original 1972 rear trailing arm, so new HD Gwyn Lewis ones are going on.
The rope got some abuse last time out so I am finally making the sliding fairlead operable from the cab.

Finally welded it together yesterday Very Happy

I think that will do okay. If it's full of clay I will likely struggle, but half the time you need to un-latch it, so the string will be beneficial anyway. Certainly lighter than a hydraulic ram. An electric reeve would be nice, but heavy.

Also I weighed it. Balence is near 50/50 with the front heavier. Total was 1936kg without the steel raps and ground anchor. (But almost everything else)

Now that I have an Rtech TIG welder and can nearly use it I am making ally stuff at home Smile
I had some 2mm 5093 left over from the van sides so I am making new inner wings for the back with narrow conveyer belt spats. The drivers side is done and this is the start of the passenger side with new 40x 40 bos 'B' pillar.

It's all stop on racing here at the moment while the trailer gets new axels. I could no longer get parts for the old ones so I am going with landrover wheels and knott cable brakes. We aim to fit the new units over easter?

Is that a machine gun sticking out of the LH chassis rail?
Nope. It has regressed from winch-challenge to trials truck. To be competitive the front needs to be shorter. I’ve removed 2” and a fair amount of weight. While I was in there I have started work on a vectored front winch. Probably using the roof winch Mount?

Shame to loose the front tow hook, it was perfect in every way, which is well rare! Anyhoo, the front is a lot shorter, further back and able to gouge the earth, which seems to be a requirement for trialing. (Because you only get one try)
At some point I need to make a winch donut, but for now I will stick with the King-one on the front.
In theory (this winter) it goes back on the upper centre-winch mount, reeves up, then back down to the chassis and out through that tube.
I need good fiddle brakes and steering first Very Happy

It has a mouth and teeth Cool

Good to see the evolution still going on - also that you've started trialling some more!

In your comment about trials you say you only get one go... something that might interest you is trying 5 gate trialling. It says your stafford area which wouldn't put you far away from our (AWDC) North Wales area. They run 5 gate trials. Just thought it might be worth you looking into to get some more driving at a competitive trial.

200mm cut off the back. Front winch in its new mount on the back.
One battery instead of two.
The vegetable steamer exhaust silencer is back out of retirement Very Happy

£4000 without the winches and lodar.
If it doesn’t sell, the 100 hour dry sump V8 is for sale for £1500.
It is seriously dialled in now, but the events are too far away Sad
