Hello all,
I'm fairly new to the 4x4 world I'm afraid so bear with me!
I bought a SJ413 tin top a few months back and have been been gently tarting it up with new snorkel/ paint/ stereo etc. No proper trips done in it yet...
It has been converted to a 1.7 TD Isuzu engine by a previous owner. Also fitted is a push button for engine heaters which you have to hold in for 10 seconds or so before starting. Has never been the easiest starter, but normally after a couple of goes, a bit of throttle and some white smoke shes off!

Issue 1
The ignition barrel went early on, so I have replaced it with a missile style switch and push to start button (leaving the key switch there just wired up as an on/off for security). This was working fine until recently, when the engine failed to stop after turning the ignition switch off. To turn the engine off I have to flick the engine fans switch (sitting next to the ignition switch) on and off which then kills the engine. No wires seem to be touching between the switches. I'm going to try swapping the ignition switch first (it was a cheap ebay job), failing that could it be some sort of grounding problem? Anyway, not a huge deal, but it might bear on the main problem;
Issue 2
I was driving around town when the engine just cut out, battery light came on on the dash. Couldn't start it again so got towed to a fuel station. Thought I may have run out of fuel as it was getting low, but still no joy starting afterwards. Now I'm thinking it probably wasn't lack of fuel as it just cut out, no spluttering.
Have tried starting with jump leads, engine is turning over fine but not starting. Any ideas where to start looking?
a) all the fuses are old and I've had to replace some for lights that weren't working etc. Could one of them be causing the problem? Ignition coil fuse?
b) air in the fuel? fuel issue? could check the injectors for fuel but not too sure about this process
c) anything related to the electrical issue 1?
Be glad of any pointers!
Thanks very much
Jack

got to be a stop solenoid on the injection pump or it would not stop? check for a wire going to the pump...it must be live when the ignition is on.

a search reveals it has an ECU unit somewhere which is problematic..according to this link its a common fault with similar symptoms to yours...recon units are available on ebay for not too much money.

from your first post about switching the fan to stop it maybe the wiring is dodgy somewhere? it must have been bodged to graft it into the sj wiring so i suspect you need to check all the related wiring carefully.
