Does anyone have experience of fitting a fairey capstan winch to a defender 300tdi? Is it possible to do? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you. ( the winch is crankshaft drive and not p.t.o)

Although I have never fitted a capstan winch ( I did fit an hydraulic winch to my 300 TDI) I can see several issues that will need resolution.
If the capstan winch (which I assume was designed for the series 3 ) is crankshaft driven presumably the drive shaft engages with the starting handle dog on the series engine - something LR have long dropped - so there is no drive dog on a 300TDI therefore one will need to be made.
Secondly depending on how high the 300TDI engine is mounted the crankshaft end may be facing either the radiator or the chassis crossmember (I sold my 300TDI engine Defender 10 years and I cannot remember where it sits) in which case you will need a modified radiator or crossmember - neither are impossible but a bit more work
