well today my new tyres arrived and was well chuffed when I got home,
BUT the more I looked at them the more I was convinced something was wrong, as they looked quite skinny for a 12.50 tyre, rolling them outside an looking at them next to the tyres on my disco it was glaringly obvious, out with tape measure and the new tyres are just under 11 inches wide even though marked on tyre as 12.50.

Quick phone call to supplier only to be told that the tyres are allowed to be smaller than stamped to a certain amount and that if I send them back I will have to pay a restocking fee of about 35-40 quid plus return carriage.

does anyone have any thoughts on this as I know tolerances can vary, but surely over 1 1/2 inch is taking the proverbial.

thank you
Mouse.

1.5 inches sounds like someone is taking the ****, and wanting that much to change is taking it even more.Lots of people these days do remoulds that are huge in comparison, to new but that is down to a certain extent to casing availability.I would send an e mail to the manufacturer and see what they say or see what the importer says.

hi
well at the moment the firm I brought them from are saying that as the tyres have the size stamped on them that its nowt to do with them as they sent me what I asked for, these are brand new and not remoulds.

to put the icing on the cake I have been told that I need 4 tyres and not two as the ones on my truck have only about 5mm of tread and that new ones with about 15mm of tread will not do the diffs any favours, never rains but it pours Sad

If they were bias or cross ply they will 'grow' when warm, but sounds like someone has moulded a set or sets with the size they need and gone from there.

What size and make are you after Mouse?

Hi Mr Tyre,
sorry been without internet, was looking for Kumho KL 71s in 33x12.50 15, but most places in the country have no stock, have found one place but wanted over £300 per tyre, managed to get a set of cooper discoverer stt pro muds for not a bad price.
Still trying to get full refund from original firm who have agreed in principle but are muttering about restocking fee, even though on there website it says they do not do this, hoping for a good outcome but if not have photos of tyres with a straight edge across them and a tape measure and will be going to my bank and trading standard's.

Mouse, you would have found the Kumho at around 32.5 inches in diameter, lots of people use tread width these days to measure tyres in place of the usual sectional width that can make a difference.
FYI know a couple of guys using new pattern BFG in both AT and MT the MT are being replaced Monday, the AT second week of December, they have done less than 10k and are FUBARed, they are/were on 3.2 Ford Wildtracks.
