Can anyone tell me what they think are best ( pure off roader)

35x12.50x15 creepy crawlers - around £190 a tyre

285x75x16 insa turbo special tracks- around £130 a tyre however I don't have 16" rims

So what do I go for? The insas and try and get 16" rims for my Suzuki or go for the 35s?

I take it you know the Insa would measure up at 33" tall so a bit smaller than maxxis?

Yeah that's half the dilemma. I've heard they come in around 33-33.5 inch where as the maxxis closer to 35. Obviously I wasn't as much ground clearance as I can however I need to look at cost, then getting rims + which is a better tread pattern.

The insa will DIG. Great if your in sloppy mud with good base - absolutely rubbish in soft bottomless sand.

I haven't had any experience with maxxis though so couldn't really say, but they do look a bit milder? The ground clearance would be great, but your gearing will get worse!

I know, as its a 100% off roader i want to take it into some challenges. Obviously the insa pattern ( simex copy ) is fantastic but im just not sure if the added clearance would be better..

Theres loads of vehicles going around with 285 insa's ... i always wanted to be a bit different. However are they all going round with them because they work ?? who knows!

I would expect the Insa to be at least 33 inch in diameter, nearer 34 inch in some cases, expect the Maxxis to start at 34.5 inches.

I know I'm just really not sure what to go for. I had 33" grizzly claws on an old truck and they were great .. I just want this one a bit bigger.

I know there's enough room to get the 35s on. It's only when articulating or a steep turn..

As it's a Suzuki I've got in fairly limited to 16" rims which makes it harder / more expensive for the insas

Another way to look at it is that 35x12's are really going to need 10 inch wide rims, but most people put them on 8 inch rims, where as the 285's only need an 8 inch rim.

I had the fedima sirocco tyres, same pattern as the insa but they were nearly 37" diameter as a remould.

This is them against the 265 insa

Don't forget to make sure your running gear is up to it!

Wow they look huge.

I looked at fedimas buy struggle to get the bigger sizes.

I think I may end up going with the 285 insas. Some measure 33.5 inch so going 35 inch is only 0.75" difference under the diff, the 35s are less aggressive and may spend more time hitting the inner arches than full articulating.

The thing is I've seen some insas measure 32.5" others 34". How can you make the tyre bigger? More air?😂

The tyre casing you use in the remoulding process is just one part of how big or small the diameter of your remould will be. Some european casings are likely to be larger than stuff from the far east, some are smaller, most manufacturers like to use one make of casing to lessen the chance of casing size indifference but due to shortages not all can be. Know of someone who fitted a set of chunky pattern remoulds to a tdci 90, he moaned that he could only use 5th gear on flat surfaces and couldn't use 6th at all. Took them of to find they equated to 34 inch diameter based on the circumfrence of them they were stamped 235/85R16.

My 285/75r16 insa and fedima together - both same height. Yes i have lifted the truck weight off the insa for fair comparison. Both measure in at 34" tall. Never thought to measure them before..

So if the maxxis measure up at around 34.5 as Mr Tyre said, there's pretty much nothing in it.

Is there any difference between the fedimas and insas? Both look similar and are obviously the same size? Fedimas are cheaper though?

Think I'm going to go with one of the 2.. seems to be more pros than the 35s .

Only issue now 16" rims for a Suzuki???

I have used Silverline before now for wheels, but there will be others especially people who do stuff for Suzuki's so you will have a choice.

Only major difference is the Fedima have the lugs on the sidewalls of the tyres..

Didn't grand Vitara come with 16s? Daihatsu Fourtrak wheels fit aswell... Not sue about widths and offsets of either though.

Grand Vitaras had 16" steel wheels, I think 7" wide but can't remember 100% it was a long time ago. Laughing

I have 5 Fedima Sirocco 235/80 R 15 on black steel 8 x 15 wheels for sale.
4 used and 1 is the spare unused.
So not huge but suits the gearing on a Jimny with not much engine power.
(As in pic here. cant post others.)

So £350, but not posting and packing or dealing with couriers,
so cash to be collected or i will deliver for under £40 in Scotland.
Maybe no interest to the OP but will suit someone needing smaller tyres....

Grand Vit come in 2 widths 6.5 and 7 inch the 7 inch are the ones to go for due to their offset, you could have a look for late model Daihatsu Fourtak rims, the ones off the independent version they too are 7 inch.

?
Is it a Vitara or a Grand Vitara being used for Challenges?
&
Why does what is OEM fitment on a Vitara, Grand Vitara or Daihatsu matter for doing Challenges?
Get suitable 16" rims if required, plenty around. Get 8x16 maybe.

What i have do not fit a standard Vitara, but do a Modified, offroader etc/
They fit a Daihatsu as well.
Not big enough likely for a Vitara doing challenges.
& if you are talking OEM, then no they are not 6.5 or 7" x 16 Rims.

5x139.9 fitment, 8x15" and the offset to suit clearing the springs and dampers
and giving the width.
maybe 31" tyres height.

It's a vitara I have that I plan on competing with late next year once it's all complete.

So are rims easy enough to get / come by? I can get steels easy but not alloys

It's 285s I would be after - something over a 33"

So are the fedimas better than insas if they have lugs on the side? I take it they are oversized a long with the insas?

I don't know exactly what your building but based on my experience I would stick with steel wheels as if you bend them you can hammer them back and get a seal, alloys tend to crack.

Also I put 31" tyres on my Suzuki and it killed it, it didn't have the power or the strength, I had to drop the gearing right down. Although 33" - 35" would be good for clearance I think you need to consider more strength, more power / lower gearing and take as much weight out of the thing as possible.

Did you get anything in the end?

The Creepy Cralwers are a special compound rubber and designed more for rock crawling (it’s in the name). They are sticky and will grip dry hot rocks well. As much of the Mid West USA is terrain such as this. This is also why they are wide.

So the question is. What sort of terrain are you going to be driving on? Sadly there is very Little Rock crawling in the UK. On the right terrain the Creepy Crawlies will be superb.

As for the Insa’s. Let’s not forget they are a copy of a Simex pattern. Only the Simxes are cross ply not a radial. And generally perform a lot better than most of the copies.

The copies are still capable. The best looking was probably the Silverstone Extremes as they most closely resemble the Simexes.

As for size. Well bigger isn’t always better. And from personal observation narrower tyres tend to work better on most UK mud than wide tyres do. For this reason alone I would opt for a tall skinny tyre if given the choice. Take a look on YouTube at some of the mud trucks in the US. Generally the ones that perform the best are on the skinny tyres.

If you are on sand or rocks. Then wider tyres may be of benefit.

For stock tyres the most impressive I’ve seen performance wise are the Recip Maxi 3D’s. But you’ll be limited to a smaller tyre. Have seen these first hand easily outperform the Insa Turbo (aka Simex Extreme Trekker copies) on several different types of terrain, but especially wet mud and grass.
