Hi everyone. I am brand new to forums so please advise/excuse any mistakes. I have run a 2003 (52) plate TD5 for 8 years. It works very well but it has had issues. I need a tow vehicle for 1.5 ton trailer of horse manure twice a week summer and winter. In winter the mud/slush is axle deep. TD5 has coped really well but I want to update to a newer vehicle. I can probably afford a late Mk4 disco. Are there any mileage milestones to watch for or any other well known problems? Would it be worth pushing myself for an early low mileage 3.0 Mk5?
I only do approx 7,000 mile a year so would there be a point to consider the petrol Mk5? According to reviews the MK5 is better off road than any other Disco. Please don't say get a Defender because it has to double up as my car so I want some comfort as I am getting older! Thanks in anticipation.

There will be a Discovery owners website online somewhere so have a look on there, problems I know off include brake pad wear front and rear, rear suspension bushes/ lower arms on the front, anti roll bar bushes wearing quite quick something you will notice if you tow as often as you do with that much weight. If you have deep pockets go for a petrol expect single digit mpg if you drive like lewis, maybe mid to high teens if you drive like miss daisy, know of a few doctors who use them so fuel isn't an issue, but 99 out of 100 are going to be diesels in the real world. Budget for a set of all terrain tyres like Grabber AT or X3 will make life easier off road, anything really flash will have big wheels and tyres to clear the Brembo brakes which may limit you somewhat, try and find something on either 18 or 19 inch wheels.

If you unsure of anything let me know, but the owners websites will help you make a decision.
