I need some advice before i go and strip down my engine. two days ago i started hearing a metal on metal knocking noise somewhere on the back of the engine and in front center prop shaft coupling flange. The knocking sound isnt consistent. It knocks twice one second apart, then nothing for about 3 seconds. the 2 knocks again, and so it goes on. Gearbox is fine, engine starts fine with no issues, cv-joints also fine, so my possible conclusion might be diff box.
I have uploaded a youtube video for clarity.

Any ideas or advice will be highly appreciated.
Thanks

I had a similar knock on my shogun - it turned out that the retaining springs on the clutch lever had broken allowing the thrust bearing to be loose

I have done some research and I'm fairly certain that the issue is caused by the IRD that is still intact even though the prop shaft has been removed by the previous owner. Below i have found this video on youtube explaining how to remove the IRD and blank it off with a flange plate. I will attempt this first and then check if this was the issue. I have used a large screwdriver to narrow down where the noise is coming from and the source noise is directly above the IRD gear. The second link shows a top down cross section diagram of the IRD.
