Apparently, according to my tester the test is changing again. Now to include reverse lights, front fogs on post 18 cars, engine warning lights and a few other little things. Also the categories are being renamed, minor fault, major fault and unsafe to drive or something, unroadworthy maybe. Minor being the same as advisory major being fail. Apparently.

I have always been of the opinion that if it's fitted to a car it should be fit for purpose and work correctly whether it is tested or not, so to my mind stringent testing of more than the absolute basics is a welcome thing. That said though renaming the categories is just a job creation scheme for people with no other useful abilities.

I believe warning lights are already in. I like things to be right so take my cars to a place that does it right not a £50 and here's your ticket.
The problem is the industry can be a bit slow to catch up, like the 13-pin towbar testing machines that were failing cars when there was nothing wrong with them. They should have it all sorted and approved in advance.
