My 1996 TDX has 255/70/R15 Road tyres currently. Looking to fit MT tyres as the farm ground is starting to get a little ropey now.
Looking at insa turbo Dakar or Sahara. Can't find them in the above size match but can find 235 /75/R15, it's this a suitable swap?

Thanks

You could fit them, you will lose width, sidewall height, and some diameter, but that's up to you.

Oh poo.
I read about an equivalent imperial to the 255 but also that it might not fit without mods and /or I can't find it in the insa range, limiting me to pricey (although probably better) Cooper or BFG tyres?

I have just checked my maths again, I have also added another size.

255/70R15 diameter 29 inch, width 10 inch, sidewall height 7 inch

235/75R15 diameter 28.8 inch, width 9.25 inch sidewall height 6.9 inch

30x9.50R15 diameter 29.9 inch, width 9.49, sidewall height 7.5 inch

Hope that helps

Ok so the 235/70 would not be that far off?

Not as far off as I thought, but if it was me I would be going for the 30.9.50R15 but that would be dependent on what is available.

Many thanks for your help.

I'll see what i can find in that imperial spec and fall back on the 235 if need be.

Just as a follow up, I went with the Insa Turbo Dakar. Kwik fit guy was dubious about the size when he lined one up against the existing (standard) fit tyres but i showed him the numbers above and said i'll pay even if we have to swap back after one.

So he cracked on and it all came well in the end, two of them made jokes about needing ear plugs on the road but to be honest they're not as noisy as i thought.

edit: shame i can't show the result, my link from google doesn't work however i try it

Mrs NB fitted a set of these whilst I was deployed once:

Well, the original tyres were shot, I was away, and that's all the local garage in Naples could source at the time. Loud is not the word...

...got 40k miles out of them though before I gave up and got something quieter - and they were probs only half worn.

Much appreciated was your help too. Hmmm - that would have been 8-9 years ago.

Edit: and indeed here is the thread!

What a useful archive Difflock is!
(and 'd forgotten what a good read that was - PS I was in Baghdad, Mrs NB in Naples, Italy at the time)
