Evening all , been away from the mud for a few years and now getting back into it . Ended up with a Jimny with a few bits and bobs on it . The owner before me didn’t want to or know how to fix a single thing so I have found a few horrors along the way to making it right again , mainly rust and I am now nearing the end of it but the one place I haven’t even touched is the sills as I want to inset some box section to act as the rock slider . I’ve had a look around for pictures but does anyone have any detailed pictures side view , underneath and at the ends etc . Want to see where people have cut in at what point etc . Is there any tips for doing this ? I’ve done it on landys but never a Jimny so want to make sure I am doing it right .

Thanks Chris

Sorry not able to post pictures.
Are you intending having a roll cage of any kind.

Is the plastic off now as you are welding & do you have a clear view of what you are working with.
On my Jimny's the bodies have been lifted and the sliders are on the chassis not the body.

Yes all the plastics are off , also the front wings .

Cage will happen one day but not for a long time as there are other things that need doing first . I know cage is one of the most important things but I got to make the Jimny right and undo all the shocking amount of ***** that has been done to it lol

The cage could get mounted to the rock sliders but I don’t like the look of it . On past trucks I’ve had my own out rigger for the cage or picked up on something just as strong

Want to keep Max clearance and have found myself hung up on extra out riggers for the rock sliders hence me wanting to mount to sills .

Am I looking at this wrong ? Just want to avoid the problems I’ve had before

👍🏻

Just as well to get fabricating then and as long as the Sill Structure / rock slider is OK for a MOT then fine.

Personally i would still want any sliding, squeezing sliding done on the Chassis, not with the body / sills.

How high are you lifting on the springs, and are you putting spacer blocks in and lifting the body from the chassis?

?
How big are you going with the tyres and are you knocking the tyre well back a bit to give room, and make sure the rock slider front piece matches the tyres fitted when the front suspension is compressed as well as at full articulation.

It’s got 30’s at the moment but will go up a size or two at a later date .

Sorry i should of said it’s gonna be a trailer queen . I own a trailer company so not short of trailers lol . No mots to worry about . Thinking then , as it’s not going to be road worthy do you think I could sit a slider in the sill like I wanted but with some braving to the chassis ( bolted ) like you suggested . I know this will in effect made rubber body mounts useless but it don’t matter for a trailer queen.

I am looking at vitara rear axles at the moment with a full floater conversion and Sammy front axle with better shafts and cvs . This should give better gearing also .

Springs that are in at the moment I would say are around 2 inch’s if lift but I don’t know how to tell as there are no marking on them . They are yellow and that’s all I know
