Hi Barry from Ireland. Just bought a 2008 l200 animal and started modding. I have a 3 inch front 2 inch rear suspension spacer and shackle lift installed but now looking at wheels and tires. I have been searching for 2 weeks online but I'm still none the wiser. I want to put on mud tires, looking at toyo open country but still confused about sizes offsets etc. Originally I was going to go 285 75 16 but seeing conflicting information about fit without trimming so have resigned to 265 75 16 instead, unless you can convince me!! I am going to buy steel wheels but lost when it comes to offsets, I see the standard 17" alloy offset is about 30 but cannot figure out what et steels I should order in a 16x7 size. I would like a wide stance but again not overly keen on trimming.

Can someone please help!! What 16 inch steel width and offset should I buy that will fit, and what tires 285 or 265 will fit with my lift.

Appreciate any help you can give me!!

For 265/75R16 tyres you will want 7 inch wide rims. If your rims have an offset of 30 you want to go for something very similar again, to lessen any clearance issues something, with a lift you should not suffer with, but you don't want to buy something that is no good to you.

If you go to or ring a tyre dealer, tell them what you have and what you want (someone who deals in more than Land Rovers) then they will be able to help you.

If you are running 235/65R17 or 245/65R17 for me then 265/75R16 is the way to go.

Thanks Mr Tire. I'm on 245 65 17 at the moment. I took the wheels off today and with the help of YouTube managed to measure my offset. It in the +25/30 region.

Unfortioneately I don't have any tire supplier who is a 4x4 expert. I have been emailing tires direct (who I will definitely be buying the steels and tires from) but am confused still about the best offset for me.

I might give them a buzz in the morning to talk through it.

Thanks again.

The wheels want to be in about the same position to lessen any problems with tyres catching suspension or catching the body. They use to offer +8,+32,+50 0,-32,-50.You need to tell the guy your offset as it is and then see what he offers, telling him you don't want them sticking out a mile not unless he will come every week and wash it for you!!
