Hi all. First post, so hopefully I am doing this right. I've got a 1995 Disco with BFGoodrich AT 235/70R16. I am looking to replace them but they are pretty expensive here in Ireland. Does anybody have any experience of the Insa Turbo Mountain tyres or the Merit brand. Also, will 235/85R16 or 265/75R16 fit (with some mods perhaps)?
Many thanks,
Ro

Neither 235/85R16's or 265/75R16 will fit without quite a few 'mods'it depends if you want to fit tyres straight on or you want to modify your vehicle.Merit is an excellent budget new tyre,Insa Turbo's are excellent remould tyres.

I found out the other day that 235/85/r16's don't fit a disco after they were sent in error, they're about 34"

5 x 235/70/r16's on their way

Thanks Harry Very Happy

Hi Ro,

Welcome to Differs... Applause

235/70 R16 is standard for Disco, 225/75 R16's also fit, they're a fraction taller and narrower but not by much. I think the biggest you can go without any mods is 245/70 or 245/75 and even then you may need a small cut to the return lip in the rear wheel arch to stop them fouling on articulation.

I have 265/75 R16's on mine and have had to chop the back of the rear arches quite a bit to stop them getting too friendly with the tyres (and I have a 2 inch spring lift fitted!). My main problem at the moment is that my tyres rub the front radius arms so I cannot get full steering lock. I think 235/85's are about the same diameter as mine but narrower.

From what I've seen in the past, it appears that what size "actually" fits is down to your individual vehicle. I have heard of 235/85's going on some Discos and Range Rovers with no problems when other owners have had to lift their vehicles and trim arches - Land Rover build quality(!).

Cheers,

Steve.
