...gave a colleague a lift home a day or so ago (the chain snapped on his bike so we through the whole lot in the back of the 90 and trundled back in rush hour traffic)...

...now he's a happy Range Rover driver who loves the comfort but he remarked that climbing into the 90 felt like a sense of adventure (and I don't mean it just starting and actually getting to where you were going). I know I do.

Anyone else fell the same about their pride and joy?

I'll admit that I lost it through trying to make a sensible decision on cars I bought!

E30 bmw (mine), Volvo 480(mrs) - both retro and love them both but they work like modern cars - all electrics, central locking, heaters that work etc...

Then I bought a cheap LHD 1960's Merc, drove it back from Dorset to Suffolk and remembered why I like driving old cars again, proper road trip with a real sense of adventure (and no breakdowns) Smile

Bmw hasn't moved since! Smile

Cheers Ged - I'll let him know Cool

(and then I'll tell him what being in a car with you is like (No1 daughter is still in awe)!)

Think about it though - it's not what you do or being boring in a boring car, it's just a feeling of fun/adventure could/will happen. It's an event, an experience.

And yep mike: Agreed.

I can understand where they are coming from...
I've got my Samurai and Maruti Gypsy. My Mrs has a mk2 MX5 that I drive occasionally.

The MX5 is such a better car, but in the end its just a car...
In the Zook/Ruti... ANYTHING COULD HAPPEN!

Engine could explode, wheels could fall off, etc

There's the sense of adventure haha
