Windscreen stickers which show a vehicle’s emissions levels are now a legal requirement in several French cities .
UK drivers heading to the capital are advised that driving without a France 'clean air' sticker (£3.20) makes them liable for an on-the-spot fine of up to £117.
Drivers of non-French-registered vehicles have been offered a degree of leniency and given until March 31 to fully comply with the Crit’Air initiative. An English language section of the government website responsible for stickers will launch on February 1.
The scheme went live in Paris on January 15 (my Euro II LR is now banned from inside the Peripherique for instance at certain times) , while schemes in Lyon and Grenoble have been running since the start of the year.

There is a exemption for (French) classic cars (ie over 30yrs old) but I'm waiting for the info to appear on the English language website to see how that would work for us.

Website:

Other cities are also likely to introduce the system.

What the info doesn't say is if the stickers will only be checked in the cities where the scheme is on operation or whether checks will be made on the open road...but what do you think if you're in a UK registered vehicle Cool

Be aware - get a sticker if you're going to France.

Thanks for the warning.

In another anti-car move I read a news article saying that diesel cars are to be charged more for parking in parts of London in an effort to combat pollution. (I will post the link if I can find it). How frikking daft is that? A parked car does not cause any pollution.

A recent study in Cambridge found that buses are the vehicles causing most pollution. Oxford Street in London is one of the most polluted places in Europe - cars and lorries are banned, only buses and taxis are allowed in Oxford Street.
