I'm with Ged.
Beginning (first minute or so) was good, The rest was pretty standard old TG stuff.
But still far better than the Evans series.
I shall keep watching, As the montage for the series looked like there will some fun stuff to come.
I didn't watch it on amazon either.

Thought it exactly as I thought it would be.

The first of a series is always a bit more awkward (and esp in USA - where is Dennis when you need him) but I think it will grow.

All the ingredients were there and Andy Wilman has done his stuff indeed.

I didn't intend on watching it as I don't like Amazon but ended up seeing it.

I don't really like supercars and the bulk of the program was those going around a track, normally I don't mind as the camera work on TG used to be exceptional but I thought it was pretty flat.

I didn't get the celebrity bit at all.

The connection between the 3 presenters and how natural they are were the only difference to that and new tog gear.

I always liked the specials that old TG did (like finding the source of the nile, I will watch those as repeats but not the others) so I hope they do some of that.

I thought it was excellent. Laugh like a drain moments, an almost total lack of PC nonsense (they played to the game as a send up I think) and the Celeb bit I found utterly hilarious.

Not all of it worked though, the edited "RAF is the best" bit for example, and not convinced about the track either but 'The American' race driver is an excellent take on Stig.

I didn't watch it on Amazon either but if I can find a use for Amazon Prime other than Grand Tour then I might just cough up for it.

For anyone who was expecting anything new then I'm sure you'll be disappointed but the interaction between the presenters is what makes it work as well as it does and the BBC cannot easily replicate that as we saw with the travesty that was Chris Evans.

To be fair, I enjoyed it all the more because I was sat with a cold beer, in the hot tub, with company Wink watching it on my iPad for free. Decadence central Laughing Laughing

I usually like new. 'Change is as good as a rest' and all that...but I'm a bit cautious of it now..
The Mrs told me about a new program called Roo Pauls Drag Race not long ago. I checked the time for when it was on, sat down, cracked open a beer and relaxed, waiting for some burnouts and 1/4 mile action...
Turns out I'd rather stick with good ol' Clarkson & crew no matter what they're up to! Laughing

Ok so now I've seen it - actually on the first time around as well - but not on Amazon (actually the only thing I like about [the] Amazon are those amazonian beauties that used to deform themselves in order to fire their arrows) Razz

I digress... The opening, yes was OK but if they do that every week it will be tired out before the end of this month

Lack of PC - OK by me - certainly made it funnier

Both the celebratory bit and the RAF bit was definitely included to appeal to the moronic public that was watching that wouldn't be able to understand the subtle jokes (nope I found neither funny)

The track was OK but the American race driver wasn't really funny and seemed to be utterly useless at driving the track

To be honest the three stooges are getting tired now and need to update their images otherwise they (like carrot top) won't last either.

Which brings me to the super cars...

What is it with manufacturers and their computer gismos The cars are going to spend more time in the garage than on the road the electronics will be totally shot in 3-5 years and not doubt they claim that it's no different than a aircraft - really? A fly by wire aircraft will cost from about £500,000,000 upwards at the minimum - not £500.000 - I certainly wouldn't want any super car up in the air...

The thing with super cars, race cars etc is that they get a lot of money thrown at them to be better / newer or however you want to look at it so you may sit there and say that's pointless and a waste of money but that is where the technology / engine efficiency / safety devices etc etc come from that go into the car that we will be driving in a few years time. Without that big budget injection a lot of what we take for granted wouldn't be here. Of course it's not all due to supercars etc, some comes from legislation or trying to get one up on the competitor but it's where advances are made.

OK a lot of the stuff on cars today frankly I don't want either, but I do like ABS, A/C, getting more than 35mpg from a 50bhp petrol engine, electric windows, remote central locking, PAS, not walking around town in the stench of petrol and smoke of buses and whatever else the cars didn't have when I was learning to drive.
That said I do agree, I've no interest in todays playstation super cars either Smile

I have a friend who would quite like to see what all this fuss is about. But I (I mean my friend), don't know how people manage this illegal download business.

How would someone go about this, hypothetically of course.

You can install Kodi on some smart tvs your lap top, Home pc, tablet or mobile phone or buy a fire stick and install it yourself. You will end up with more channels than you need.

you can buy a kodi amazon fire stick for under £50 and watch everything. You just have to search a bit. There is one called an infinity box, it's £150 but they claim to do all the searching for you. I haven't used either but people tell me they are good.

I just searched facebook for 'the grand tour 1x01' or 'the grand tour 1x02' in facebook, so far that has revealed full episodes in perfect quality. Plus I can't believe it's illegal as a company as big as facebook would never allow a company as big as amazon to be ripped off on their site.

Episode 2 was excellent, if they carry on like that it will be worth getting amazon prime for my Christmas box Smile

its a tricky law, if you download, you are in breach of copyright and fall under the FACT realm, and they do prosecute. i was caught up in a massive trial involving a computer game that we released two days before the company did. the head coder we had at the time went on to work for sony and everyone else got off on a technicality......

if you upload, you can be found guilty of "making" and then you are at the mercy of the publishing companies and they have deep pockets and many lawyers.

the main ISP`s were threatened in the high court and told to block access to all the main torrent sites in the hope that this would stop all the casual users that "hit and run" ie, download and then disconnect. those that do seed and leach (up and down load) are more difficult to stop, as there is plenty of ways around it.

streaming, being relatively new is running just in front of the current legislation (remember, you have to explain what is wrong to a bunch of technophobe elderly mp`s to get laws passed) but there are again, other ways to enforce. eg, the grand tour is on a subscription based service, if you watch it without paying, then its theft of intellectual property and again falls under FACT.

however you do it, you can get done....
