I'm new on here but I have just replaced my terranno 2 with an 04 3.0 commercial version and have got a few niggles that I was hoping to get some advice with.
1. The gearbox seems to be rather "rattly" in some gears, especially 5th but is silent in 4th. Would some fresh oil sort this or is it gonna be terminal?
2. When she is stone cold she is an absolute pig to start and takes an age of cranking, when she eventually goes, it is followed by a cloud of smoke. Now the previous owner told me that he had issues with the glow plugs not working so had wired in a separate switch for the job but seems to have no effect?
3. After starting there is a "new" rattle, which to me sounds like the starter is sticking in as after less than a mile it generally stops as if it has popped out. Is this likely to be just a new starter job or something worse?

Looking forward to some helpful replies, John.

The back gear bearings in the gearbox are shot new bearing wil fix but will be a pig to do - new oil will not sort it but thick grease may hide the rattle if you intend selling it Twisted Evil

You're looking for rust on the fuel lines which will be hiding pin holes allowing the fuel to drain back to the tank overnight - your best bet is to replace the fuel lines

Don't want to sell it, I only got it a week ago d'oh! would it still be this bearings even tho it's only some gears and only when under load?

It's not a fuel issue as she's smoking while cranking, had a look on Sunday and seems there is a right old birds nest of added wires behind the battery so gonna go through t morra evening and try to work out what he's done as the only thing gong to the glow plugs is some piddly little wire that I wouldn't trust to run an led bulb Brick wall

Thanks again, John

The selling bit was tongue in cheek Wink

4th gear is the only one that does not use the back gear, 5th does (actually right next to the bearing) and I suspect that you'd get the same rattle in reverse as well, and possibly 3rd.

It sounds as if your rear bearing is shot but the front one will be on the way out as it's now taking all the load

I'd still look for bad fuel lines...
Do a test on first start up - manually pump up the fuel until the manual pump goes hard then try starting

Well issue number 2 is now solved, wiring was shot and the switch didn't work, so replaced wiring, new relay and switch and it works, just need a bigger fuse for it Brick wall
