Hi.

Just taken a look at the air filter in my Fourtrak and it's got an odd looking plastic shield around about half its length. I've looked online at new filters and they have them too. Never seen anything like this before, and seems a bit pointless. So what's it for, and should I bin it?

I think its to do with stopping water getting into the intake by forcing the air to go to the outside of the end of the air box with the drain in it? I have took my filter out before and it had mud/evidence of water on the plastic thingy, and without it there that would have been on my filter! No point in binning it if truck works fine with it there...fyi I wound up boost and fuel pressure and engine never wanted more air than the factory filter with the plastic shroud still fitted could supply. Smile

Thanks for taking the time to reply. I was a bit concerned about the effect on airflow, but what you've said makes a lot of sense.

I'll definitely keep it on - there is a Mann filter on there at the mo' and I've just ordered a new one so it'll be interesting to see if that's the same.

I've done quite well so far - I've had this Fourtrak for five days and haven't altered anything yet...although I've already priced up EGT and boost gauges Very Happy

No worries Smile
I went through a few filters and all the ones I ordered (cant remember the companies) came with the same plastic shroud. Love my little Daihatsu, but doesn't get a lot of use now Sad stick a few pics up of yours when you get a chance, always interested in peoples projects...

Here's Rocky, the only car I've ever owned that got named!

Rocky looks good.

Mine is a near enough standard F75 - I'm going to try to keep it standardish as its going to spend near enough 100% of its time on the road. Although, once I've put a few miles on it it'll definitely get the pump tweaked.

I spent a whole afternoon just vacuuming the interior and washing green algae off the roof Rolling Eyes

Next job is to jet wash underneath to get rid of accumulated mud and horse **** (!) and then in a few days cover the whole underside in cheapo 20w50 and the 5kg tub of lithium grease that's sat here. It'll get a proper prep. and paint after winter.

I think these Fourtraks can be a little bit addictive Cool
