Hi There I'm Steve from Camberley, currently my 4 wheel drive is an audi quarto, but I am seeling it in order to buy a 4x4 that I can comute and do some off roading witrh a local club in.
I am having some difficulty making my mind up, ideally I would like a disco tdi MK1, 7 seater, or a Nissan terrano 7 seater, or perhaps a Daihatsu fourtrack, I need to buy cheap, and have lowish running ciosts, 4 kids and a mortgage is killing me!
I am open to any ideas or suggestions, look forward to getting muddy soon, hope to catch up with some of you on some tials maybe.
Have a great weekend
Steve

Welcome Steve - I lived in Camberley until a few months ago but that's by the by!
Loads of options on what the right 4x4 is and everyone has an opinion on what is best but ultimately it's always a balance between many factors. From I remember there are a few Differs guys around you and there are quite a few clubs too to dip into for gentle greenlaning or a bit more...
...and always helpful advice!

It's a very hard question to answer. Mpg isn't going to be great on any of them. The advantage of land rovers is that parts are very very cheap and every man and his dog has one, knows how to fix them and you can get every conceivable modification either off the shelf or diy.
It doesn't mean that you shouldn't consider others, you can sometimes get better value out of something else that will do exactly what you want. Is it mainly a road car and the odd lane or...?

Welcome.
I am a land rover fan, but don't rule out other stuff.
Buy & enjoy.

very little bit of commuting, 6 miles each way to work and home, I will be mainly getting this to join a mate in his off road adventures, I would like seven seats so I can haul my family around if I want to, so disco, fourtrak, Nissan terrano or similar, doesn't have to be 7 seat I suppose, I am a keen home mechanic, with some welding skills and a mig welder, so don't mind a bit of work, but I do have 4 small kids so time is not always in my favour for welding etc... as it does take time.
Thanks for the advice so far. I know MPG will not be great my current daily does about 24mpg I would really like to get close or better if possible. I know off road I will not get good mpg, not to concerned about that.
Thanks all!!

So i bought a suzuki in the end, a 54 plate swb soft top, in very good condition, all the disco's that i saw were rotten as a pear, or silly money. The suzuki was a very fair price and it is in great shape. Yet to take it off road!
