Hi there,

I'm new to the forum and was hoping to get a little help.

I have a 1999 Freelander 1 (L-series Diesel).

It was running fine until yesterday when I was coming home. I hadn't been driving long, less than a mile. I pulled up at a set of traffic lights and the engine just died as I was starting to pull away. Was unable to get going on the road and had to get towed home.

I noticed the fuel gauge was showing low, but not empty, so I topped up with a can of Diesel, but no luck. I have also performed a bleed on the fuel system with no luck. I have checked and fuel is getting to the injectors, though I cannot confirm what condition the injectors are in. The engine does turn over, but will not start.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Nathan

Have you checked the airflow or air filter?
Is there a broken or damaged wire on the engine shut off side?

And that's the sum total of my knowledge Embarassed

a sudden failure with the l series is unusual...squirt some easistart in it and see if it runs,if it does then its fuel or electrics,if not it may be cam belt.
have the belts been changed at all?there are 2,1 for the cam at the front and 1 at the back drives the injection pump.
has the eml come on?maybe a code read might give you a clue.
cam sensor?crank sensor?no1 injector wire?
easistart would be my first step,if it dont run on easistart then its mechanical failure>

and before people tell you never to use easistart it is a useful diagnostic tool that eveyone should have in their kit!!
