Hi,
Wondering if anyone can help.
I have a 1997 2.5TD XJ Cherokee
Last week suddenly the temp gauge shot up and the ding alarm and check gauges warning came on.
Coolant was pouring from the header tank pressure cap.
It wasn't boiling however, also the top radiator hose was cold to the touch.

I have replaced the thermostat and tried again only to have the temp gauge climb rapidly during the first mile.
The engine runs fine with plenty of power and no traces of water in the oil.
It is the original engine with 113,000 miles on it and the water pump was only replaced 2000 miles ago.

Any ideas ?
Almost as if the impellor is spinning on the water pump shaft.
The MOT is due end of the month and i'm getting frustrated .

If i can't get a quick fix or its the cylinder heads gone, then its up for grabs.

It has 4" Rough Country lift and Maxxi Mudders 31x10.50 all in good nick.
Also its virtually rust free
