Hi all,
I'm new here and new to Green Lanes!
I'm wanting to take my LC out on some basic trips but before doing any of this I want to understand a couple things. If you are out solo on a lane and have vehicle trouble, my guess is AA won't be around to help. Assuming you have no mobile coverage at the breakdown spot, what are your options?
Many thanks for the info. Really appreciate anyone with knowledge to share and advise on useful equipment.
Would also like to hear any situations you've been in solo and had to deal with breakdowns and what you did. I am unsure if there is any GLASS membership for the local route area you can join to offer recovery services in the event things go south on you. Might sound like a stupid question but I'm not sure how this all works.
Cheers
Nick.

walk until you get phone signal then phone a friend
I have broken down once while off road and we got a towed to a spot just off the main road by a friendly local and got recovered from there, just got lucky I guess...
But as an extra question; green lanes are roads, we have to be taxed MOT'd and insured to drive on them because of that fact, does that mean your AA cover is still valid and they should come and get you?? I've never asked....?

"...walk until you get phone signal then phone a friend"
This is the bit that worries me. We don't really know anyone with a 4x4 other than ourselves and certainly not anyone that hits the lanes.
My wife and I would like to visit some really remote areas and see the real countryside. I do allot of aerial photography so keen to see some country less traveled by most. Green Lanes seems the best way to do that.
AA technically should cover if a registered road but I've not found anyone that has successfully done it. I will call them. Most people say, if the van can't get to your location then you need to get to a spot the van can access. Seems odd since you are on a 4x4 trail, no van is going to get to you, yet you are on a legal road.
I've been looking around for awhile but not really found anything that would make me feel safe if we were to breakdown. I'd hate to get stuck somewhere remote with the kids as well. If there was a support response you could get then awesome, it is just a matter of waiting but to not know if you can even recover your vehicle is concerning.
I know the best thing is to travel in a group but often that is not possible.
Thanks for your reply, more research needed I guess
Cheers

The AA advertise the fact that they have land rovers with winches and offroad tyres but they don't seem to like to use them. Perhaps they would be more sympathetic to a breakdown than a recovery?
