Hi everyone, I'm sorry sign up and immediately ask a question when I've not contributed yet, but I would really appreciate some advice, and I think its a simple question...

I've just put an SJ413 engine in a 410. I'm not here to discuss whether it was worth the effort... but I'm stuck with how the exhaust is meant to go together. Its a G13A engine from 1990. I bought what I assumed to be a standard SJ413 exhaust manifold from an online breaker, which looks right and fits the engine. I bought a standard 413 exhaust with fittings and seals. It looks like the end of the manifold is meant to slip inside the end of the exhaust, and the bolts squeeze the springs to compress the seal, but the pipe diameters are about the same, so neither slips in to the other, they just butt up and the seal is not squeezed. Can anyone tell me how they are designed to work...

The manifold ends with an outside diameter about 43mm, inside diameter about 39mm. The front end of the exhaust pipe is OD about 43mm, ID about 39mm.

Any thoughts very much appreciated.

Also if anybody is local to South Devon, and wants a 410 gear box or engine then get in touch... They are both un-testes, and both have been mistreated by previous owner and then me too! Left outside and robbed for some parts.

Cheers

Hugh

Looking at exhaust pipes for sale on ebay, some claim to fit the sj413, others claim to fit the 1.3 samurai. I thought that these were basically the same, or at least had the same engine fitted, but if there are 2 different exhaust types, is it possible that I have a sammy manifold and need to buy an exhaust designed for the samurai, not an sj? Does anybody know if there is a way to tell from looking at or measuring the exhaust manifold?

Thanks! So it's the right exhaust. Either I'm not understanding how it's meant to go on, or wrong manifold. Do you know, is it meant to slip over the end of the manifold?

Have you got the massive weird gasket?

the one that looks like it's made of a brillo pad? that goes between there with the skinny end pointing into the exhaust.

Hi , It's hard to picture what your saying with out one . But you start your fitting the exhaust from front to back . The exhaust manifold should have that gasket brilo looking wire ring slip over the end with the tapered end facing down, then the
second part of the exhaust that has the retaining springs bolts to the manifold . Then you connect the centre exhaust section ect and so on . It should be fairly straight forward .
