Just been in the classifieds - people advertising that have never contributed to the forum, at least one that last made 2 posts 8 years ago and at least one blatant spam scam.
If it were me I'd close it and have a classified board on the forum readable by all but postable only by those with xx number of post on the forum...

I got chucked out of a lowrider forum for putting my merc up for sale/swap without posting enough! their loss I thought; new member gone, and car sold on ebay rather than to someone in their 'club'.
I do get that we don't want people abusing the forum, but have to bring up the controversial argument;
have the free classifieds brought anyone here who's stayed?
does anyone value the classifieds as a source of parts regardless of who's selling them?
do you trust someone who has typed a lot to sell something over someone who's read lots?
I had a look at the classifieds and reminded me of our mate discodan91 he contributed something to the forum.

It's not trust
What makes me rant is these people are quite happy to use the classifieds but not have anything to say in the forum...

its called just using he forum as a free advertising platform rather than pay fee`s else were .
ive seen it before on a forum i mod , i just delete them if no other posts follow in a day or two . or at the very least a into in the new members section .

Guilty as charged, not been a huge poster on the site but always browsing. Put my items on here not because its free but because may be of use to a fellow Differ and less messers on here than on ebay and when on ebay they will be priced higher to put off the messers. Classifieds used to be very busy as did the whole site.
I would gladly pay either a fee or a percentage to sell on here, this site over the years has been a huge help to me, but these days its very quiet and as I read in a post recently most questions have been answered so only a few die hards left on the site. Sadly I think it became a victim of its own sucess.

You were one of the ones I did recognise bazza so don't feel too guilty
I don't think all the questions have been asked or answered neither do I think forums are dead
Has Difflock become a victim of it's own success? Not sure on that one

I think more that expectations of social interaction have changed. Most people expect the immediacy of farcebook etc.
There is still a place for a forum, I use several for different types of specialist knowledge/events.

Agree with both your comments, it seems to me that the older ones of us who are comfy with using a pc prefer this type of site to facebook etc where there are a thousand experts who have never done anything. Hopefully this place will have the buzz it once did, but it will always be thanks to a few good people a font of knowledge for those prepared to listen to advice.
You know its quiet when the Suzuki section does not have new posts on a daily basis. But there is always Feliks and his horsepower meter to provide reading material.

Yes, but they are something to savour and ponder over for at least two months, more if you want to check the maths.

Now that The Donald and entourage are looking in on the forum maybe Trump International will look at a buy out of the forum with the intention of asset stripping it, and maybe expelling some of the more dubious members.
There seems to be quite a few more 'users' each time i look in than there was a few weeks ago.

Hi,
I used to log-on several times a day, but gradually faded away as less and less related to my interest ... Series 1 and 2 Land Rovers (with leaf springs).
I still return from time to time, usually with a technical question, and if I see anybody that I can help ......

Some of the most helpful people in the off road world i have ever met came from this forum.
And one person who has bailed me out no end with our resto was a acquaintance i met through the classifieds on here
Its definitely a useful part of the forum... Just open to abuse sadly
