Got myself a little Boxford lathe today
Really pleased with it, really basic, very little wear and is metric. Came with loads of tools..etc..
Anyone know roughly how old or what model it is?

Nice little lathe. Used to have those at school but that was 60+ years ago and they were imperial then. Tip: never leave the chuck key in the chuck!

Fired one across the machine shop at college from doing that and it seems I didn't learn from it!

Never had or used a boxford, always used and now own Myfords, I have 4 at the moment 2 Super 7s and a ML5 which is about 85 years old, a captain lathe of about the same era which is being converted into a welding positioner (or rotary welder). The 2 Super 7s are from the early 50s and are used daily (I actually paid more for them second hand than they would have cost new
Not sure If the same applies for Boxford but with the Myford I can ring up Myford (who are trading but no longer manufacturing) with the serial number and they will tell me the year the lathe was made and the person/company it was first sold to
You have a nice little lathe there and no doubt you will find it very useful - do a search on line and you will find at least one Boxford forum/information centre

looked at a few Myford 7s' but they were £££ in comparison to my little Boxford. I can see they are much better machines though, with auto feeds and thread cutting capabilities just think I don't need that right now...
I'll get myself on that forum when I find it, should be a massive help. Thanks Xpajun
anyone got a recommendation on an old, small, & very basic mill to add to the mini machine shop??

So did I. It hit the bloke who was servicing the fire extinguisher at the time. Didn't do any damage to him but the shock made him set off the extinguisher.
