Buyers Guide - idiot proof

I've been looking at getting into off-roading for a long while now but never took the plunge. Looked at a lot of different motors. Love the defender but seems to much.

Considered the suzukis like the Jimny but idk it's not boxy enough of that makes sense...

Cherokee and disco were definitely strong contenders but I think I'm finally settled on the fourtrak! They don't seem to get too much love on the forums, unless I've been looking in the wrong places but I think they look awesome and seem pretty solid and capable from what I've read!?

Anyway, like I say it's looking like that's what I'll get. There doesn't seem to be masses for sale so I'm looking for some tips on buying these things. I'm completely new and don't really know what I'm looking for or how much I can expect to pay for something that is reliable and a half decent motor if that makes sense.

Seen some old haggard looking thing on gumtree for under £700 and then another for £5k haha so I'm pretty lost.
