Is it too late to put the sprouts on for Christmas lunch?
I know I've left it a bit late this year but do you think they will be done in time if I use a pressure cooker?

Put some in a slow cooker ready for next year...
I thinly shred mine, then sweat them in a frying pan with oil and butter.

Boil them in salted water with a good pinch of cumin seeds, drain them when still firmish or done to your taste (no matter how many months you boil them for) then saute them in butter and a good glug of port wine. Delicious.

My mum would always insist we ate our sprouts... and carrots
It wasn't until I was caring for her in her later life that she would insist "I hate sprouts" and then sometime later "I don't like carrots either"
Mums - what would we do without them

Boil them in beer before you deep fry them - make sure you have plenty of beer in just in case you run out. Alays better to have too much beer than too little.

You don't have them on yet? That's your family's Christmas ruined then.

I do sprouts by putting them in the bin and leaving them there for a few days, then transferring to a larger bin, and then they are taken away by an even larger bin on wheels

Wot he said.
I tried a new recipe tonight: Dice some streaky bacon and fry then chop your sprouts into discs about 5mm thick and chuck them in the pan with the bacon and throw in a decent knob of butter. Delicious, but if you have some tinned cooked chesnuts bung them in the pan with a small grating of nutmeg.
This is really nice, I kid you not.

OK, you don't have to put the chesnuts and nutmeg in but you could throw in a decent glug of whisky instead and flambe it.
J
PS: try the whisky first to make sure it is a good one!

I did mine last year with smoked bacon lardons, hazelnuts and cream - made them nearly bearable
