I'm not surprised that Ecclescake has pencilled in the Azerbaijan F1 race for the same weekend as Le Mans next year. By doing so he has effectively banned F1 drivers from taking part in Le Mans and in particular Hulkenberg from defending his Le Mans title - F1 has even gone as far to state that the race in that pinnacle of a motorsport country will have the start time adjusted so as not to clash with the finish of Le Mans (1500 CET).

Whilst Le Mans (WEC) gets a boost from F1 drivers adding glitz to an already spectacular paddock (there has been a long history of F1 stars trying their hand), but F1 also surely gets a kick out of promoting its drivers as multi-talented especially after the current accusations of the dull/restrictive racing in F1.

Porsche hopes that the scheduling will change and Hulkenberg has said he wants to compete at Le Mans...

...but is this a deliberate attempt by Ecclescake to run roughshod over everything?

I'll be at Le Mans (my ferry ticket for the 90 is already booked).

Home sweet home:

I felt sorry for this chap as it was pishing down...

All sorts at the Piston Heads meet:

He drove this to Le Mans (want):

There was racing too:

And the Danes of course!

Bit of replanning completed now...

...Mrs NB will take the 90/rooftent combo out as originally planned on the Tue night ferry and set up camp inside the circuit. I think I'm taking the Thu night ferry on foot and will then either blag a lift from a passing ferrari or aston driver or more likely end up getting the train to Le Mans. I can still be in Le Mans town by lunchtime Fri and make the classic racing and the Fri night Parties. Probs will miss the PistonHeads Great British Welcome though on Fri Am...

...but hopefully Mrs NB will then drives me home after the race.

Will need a holiday after that Cool

F1? What's F1? F1 is a shadow of its former self.

I have given up on F1 and started getting into GT and Endurance racing and OMG what a difference! Racing, real racing! Drivers going balls out for the whole race. Racing all the way down the classes and the field.

I was at the Rolex 24 in Daytona this year and I'm doing Le Mans next year. Arriving on Thursday and leaving Tuesday. Can't wait!

PS

Azerbaijan? It's the European Grand Prix. IN ASIA????????

Hi,

I've had dealings with a couple of Le Mans cars ...

For the price of a cup of coffee, I was given a ride round the block in an MG 750cc ... the one that seized after 23 hours, probably 1931 or 1933.

And I found a Lea Francis, registration VC400, lying under a pile of rubbish in a garage in Scotland. According to Mike Worthington Williams, it raced at Le Mans in 1929.

I lost interest in Le Mans when they stopped racing cars like what I might one day be able to afford to buy.

My wife, when she was Press Officer at DVLC, was involved in getting the original registration back for a Mille Miglia MGA. She has also driven (not raced) at Pembrey, Llandow, Castle Coombe, Donnington. For her 70th, I gave her three laps round Silverstone in an Aston Martin and a Ferrari (she says she found the Aston "cumbersome". She also had a go on the Hendon skid pan.

She screams at anybody who looks like the are going to "take out" Lewis.

Touring cars? We find them boring.

Ducks to avoid incoming.

602 Very Happy

But it's the party atmosphere and the smell of petrol and people driving cars like they stole them.

I had an (ex) fiancée who if you pulled her tail she ...

...enough - I'll stop now Cool

...nothing like watching a million quids worth of car power sliding round a corner in an overtake...

...just before it crashes...

...with the commentator noting that they should be able to fix that for next year...

Hi,

My son wanted a speed boat, after having a ride in his mate's boat ... said he enjoyed the sensation of the hull hitting the waves.

I gave him two chairs, a plank and a hammer.

I enjoy watching a really spectacular pile-up ... provided everybody walks away from it. If it's followed by a punch-up, even better.
