1988 Land Rover 90 TD

PostPosted: Sun Oct 04, 2015 2:08 pm    Post subject: 90 Owner In Northern Ireland Reply with quote

Hi Folks,

Bought a 1988 90 a couple of months of ago as something of a hobby and as a vehicle for doing some light off roading.

So far the hobby has turned into a full mechanics course and the landy hasn't made it over the garage door, let alone getting it off road. In fairness, I was told not to buy a 90/defender as the bills would never stop, but ever the optimist, I embraced a "how bad could it be" attitude and parted with my hard earned. Two months on, and having already replaced the transfer box, gear box, CV joints, prop shafts, clutch master/slave cylinders, polybushes, cylinder head and any amount of ancillary bits and bobs, I'm getting the full picture as to how bad it's really going to be Smile

Anyway, on a positive note, it has a good galvanised chassis and the body work is pretty sound, inside and out. Some very minor rust spots here and there, but generally good including the doors.

I'm looking forward to actually getting out on the road/lanes/hills and expect I may need some advice and help in the not too distant future. I guess many of you will have been there, done it, got the t-shirt and cleaned out the bank acount, and will have plenty of do's and don'ts to share!

Mark

Welcome and nice truck.

There are a few of the Difflockers in your neck of the woods and no doubt they'll be along soon to say hello as well.

My 90 hasn't been a money pit in nearly 17 years of ownership and we've all got stories to tell of 'been there, cocked it up!'
