ok, so the tin worm means that I'll have to do something about my wings and arches for the MOT, and I fear that when I take the lovely irreplaceable original rubber lips off they'll break up
defender arches look ok if mounted high enough
I don't like SPAM boy ones
the Suzuki standard ABS ones would be good, but probably unobtainable and my arches are radiused anyway for the 31" tyres
dilemma, 9k+ search responses and I don't know where to start
anyone share any pics with me to inspire me please

I've got a set of these if you're interested?
Brand new, never been fitted.

Hi Munkee, I had come across those, which would do the job, but I'm not entirely taken with them.
I'm seeing my bodywork guy Tues, and may come back to you

There's a company on ebay selling new aftermarket wings, I bought and fitted one. Very cheap and easier than welding up your holes, but need to be painted and rust proofed.

so the rubber arches are off and undamaged, front wings have light surface rust and can be rubbed out and touched up, rear wings front corner of each arch have rusted through, so will be welded for MOT, radius'ed by 1" for more clearance and the rubber arches refitted all round

Where exactly is the rust on the arches? Vitara has a chassis so most body rust in most places won't fail it on MOT, whereas it would on a monocoque chassis car. This is because the body is not structural or "load bearing" so to say.
Trouble is many MOT testers don't seem to be aware of this because all cars these days are monocoque.
Rust within 30 cm of anything structural is a fail and this is 30cm along the metal not direct or "as the crow flies".
And any protruding rust which can be a cut hazard to pedestrians is a fail.

Rust on the front of a rear wheel arch on most vehicles is within 300mm of a seat belt mounting point...
