Now then evry1
im new, bin browsing the site for months but unable to sign up due to problems with the registration page.
anyway im Chris from Wigan. Iv recently started getting back into offroading and got myself a tidy fourtrak independent for the right money. I used it standard with 31 tyres for a month or so and did a few green lanes up the lake district with no problems apart from damaging the back bumper which iv now replaced with a heavy duty one. Since then iv replaced the tyres with larger 285/75/16 goodyear wrangler tyres and lifted it around 2 inches (springs and shocks rear. Wound up torsion bar front)
anyway iv since revisited the same lanes and found that winding up the torsion bars has in my opinion wrecked the ride altogether and made it less capable offroad. Anything more than a stony path and your getting thrown all over the cab the ride is that hard.
so my question is this... Are the live axles from the older leef fourtraks narrower than the independent or is it just the wheel offsets. I really want to go live axle but don't really want to change the rear . Is ther any other options? Cheers on advance

And leafer (f70) axles are significantly narrower! just fitting massive offset wheels or spacers to make up for it would give you awful scrub radius and ruin steering Smile

there are particular years and models of Toyotas that the best axles come from. I don't know them off the top of my head, so I'd search here or google it! Smile

Im slowly sorting g wagen axles to fit my f70 and its proving to be a pain in the ass and expensive so I great as they are I wouldn't recommend them.

I did re read your post and you said you did springs and shocks rear but didn't mention front shocks? are you sure that its not due to the new rear springs/shocks being too stiff or the front shocks being too short with wound up 'bars??

Mitsubishi shogun rear and lj70 front with 80 ring and pinion difflock all round and a super low gear ratio Do it right and you'll have an awsome off-roader capable of almost everything

I put a set of y61 patrol axles on my inde was a easy enough fit. Used trak rear suspension and all patrol set up in front.
