How much is too much?

When you feel free play twisting the prop back and forth?

Cheers

There should be some. I can't remember how much off the top of my head but if you look it up in the manuals you can measure the backlash with a dial gauge with the diff out.

Normally it should just have a slight rattle.

Mines got about 15mm rotation but I think my disco is the same.

Just makes a clonk if you move off too quick.

Cheers

That is usually caused by a worn UJ on the propshaft

15mm rotation? What does that look like?

Do you mean 15 degree rotation?

If you mark diff and move prop.. 15mm on the circumference?

Just a guess

15mm of play, backward and forward, on the outside circumference of a wheel/tyre does not mean that there is 15mm of play on the gears inside the diff, in fact the gears would probably be within tolerance Wink

It's all a matter of relativity Laughing

^^ I stand corrected! Smile

15mm of OD movement on a driveshaft definitely means something's up though....
