I've had some B100 sitting in the tank of my Landy for a couple of years now (Landy has been laid up a while). I drained the tank the other day, and found loads of thick black treacle like gunk in the bottom.

I think it could be sediment from the bio, or the crud the bio has cleaned off the tank (which could be 30 years old), but have been advised it could be Diesel Fuel Fungus.

Either way the tank is getting a bit thin, so I've decided to order a replacement.

I might not be running on Bio again soon, as I only used it as I was getting it for about half the price of pump diesel... But, should I be put off of Bio because of this?

Good quality bio should be OK but don't leave it hanging around, use it promptly and from time to time put some pump diesel in it. As you live near Stanstead airport can you put some avgas in it?

I could probably source some aviation fluid from somewhere... Wink

It was commercially produced Bio, but personally I never thought it seemed the best quality, but I worked for a company that sold it retail, so would have been daft to turn it down.

It ran fine on it, as did my old diesel cars.

So the gunk is probably due to sitting for a few years then?
