I've got 3" springs on my vitara but the front struts and rear shocks and cheap c**p so going to change. Was thinking about the trailmaster stuff but they only do 2" lifts.

Could I put 2" lift rear shocks and front struts with my 3" springs? To make things more awkward I've got 1.5" spring spacers to sit into of the springs aswell. So that's really 4.5". Is there's spacers for the front struts and rear shocks that could take the 2" to 4.5?

Hope someone can help a bit Smile

Thanks

Can't help on the front I am afraid but I can do you Rough Country rear dampers in lengths to suit the 2", 3" or 4.5" lift...

Also can anyone tell me what size your shocks and struts should be compared to springs?

Let's go with 4.5" springs, does that mean I need 4.5" struts and shocks or can I go 2" or 3"?

Or

What would happen if I got let's say 4.5" rear dampers from David above but then put 1.5" spacers to give 5.5" on rear dampers?

Fairly simple matter of whether they can collapse to the bumpstops and whether they will stretch so far that the sprigs fall out.

Give me a call on 01952.825732 / 07969.458958 and I can explain what the hell I am on about!

To be honest its all about how you drive. Shocks to springs ect, and articulation.
I sold my last truck to someone after an off road test that they drove! And distinctively said to them, don't drive over x mph only to have them whinge at me for buying a truck for £700 with £1,000 worth of suspension lift! Any way look at your brake hoses before you continue on this journey.

Nope. Springs and shocks should be chosen and tuned together and should work together for your vehicles given weight. Handling aside; you don't want coil springs to become coil bound, or your springs to fall out if they're not long enough. and leaf spring don't respond well to being over compressed or extended.. On top of this prop/drive shaft angles and lengths will be affected. There is so much more to this that its one of those things where the more you learn the less you know! Smile and as Ian points out, brake hoses unlikely to reach with a big lift...

ive got hybrid shafts so that should HOPEFULLY look after the front CVs.

Also got extended brake hoses on already Smile

I always thought that they had to match ?

If the shocks are too long you risk the spring popping out ? If they are too short ? something happens lol

if they're to short you lose articulation at full droop, and too long risk bottoming out the shocks at full bump rather than hitting bump stops... neither are using your spring to full potential!

its also apparently not healthy to hang the weight of an axle on a shock (why people use check straps) which is what would happen with a shock too short... even though most cars come from the factory like that Confused

So the million dollar question ... what size you need ?

ive got 3" springs with 1.5" spacers = 4.5" springs . So does that mean 4.5" shocks ? and front struts ?

Or can I get away with 3" since its only spacers ontop of the springs ?

Vie got a feeling its the standard front struts at the moment with spacers ... unsure what rear shocks are on but they are coming off Smile

You would in theory need 4.5" shocks, or 3" shocks with 1.5" drop brackets...4.5" lift is a lot for an independent truck, I think wishbone angles and suspension/ steering geometry..etc.. will be coming onto play!! I would genuinely just call David because he is clevererer than us! Then come back and tell us what he said Cool

Yes 4.5" is a lot that's why I went hybrid shafts but need the lift for the big 35" tyres so had to go for it Smile .

I will give him a buzz tomorrow see what he says Smile will let you all know.

looking forward to hearing his views.. personally I would ditch the 1.5" spring spacers and body lift 1.5" instead (or cut arches to fit tyres because I hate body lifts Smile ), then suspension/steering geometry is slightly less compromised...

It will also suffer off-road as it will have more of a tendency to lift a wheel every time it tilts. My first 2" spring lift on my Vit had no strut spacers originally - it was hopeless.
