Has anyone ever tried the 1700cc Niva engine upgrade to 1800cc ?

I found some comments regarding this upgrade at the Ladapower Facebook page:

"Basically all parts came from 1700cc 2123 engine, but the Crankshaft is from Niva 2130. The 1700cc engine have a crankshaft with 80mm and 2130 engine have crank with 84mm

This difference make 1700 engine change to 1800."

More info about the upgrade can be found at the Ladapower Facebook page .

So you are putting a crankshaft that'll move the piston 4mm further than it's supposed to?

Crumph-bang springs to mind...

Have a look at the Ladapower Facebook page and you will see what this is about.

The pistons only move 2mm further (higher), but obviously 2mm further down as well .So yes, total additional piston travel = 4mm.

Aparantly it works, there is no need to worry about a "crump bang" Smile

That would be a 42mm throw then not 84mm - the throw is taken from the centre of the main bearing journal to the centre of the big end journal - a total of 84mm piston movement against the original 80mm on a 40mm throw crank

2mm on a Russian engine you might get away with Wink but it will only give you 1785cc against 1700cc (if the original cc is 1651 (officially a 1700cc engine) then you ain't going to hit 1800cc possibly less than 1750 which'll equal a 1700cc engine (officially) Wink

I've heard of this mod before but it was my understanding you have to change the pistons as well.

Anyways.

I think it would be a phenomenal amount of work for virtually no gain but's it your money and time so what do I know.

Thanks, that makes a lot of sense...

I think the biggest "gain" in this case might be higher engine compression.... Apart from a lot of work, these crankshafts clearly do not come cheap...

I have seen this done. as standard, the piston doesnt reach the top of the bore, so the extra 4mm just takes up this gap. Dont forget the piston will only be 2mm higher, and it will also go 2mm lower. you will need new pistons though, because you will have to rebore the engine to the next size up to get rid of any wear lip, as with the extra stroke you will be smashing the rings into the wear lip and it will fail very quickly.
I built two 2088cc engines for peugeot using standard components in this exact way
